Gee, with the way I dress I could see the Lexus dealer getting really excited when I come. Okay, joking aside that is probably one of the most rediculous ideas I've heard in a long time!

Good grief, they'll try ANYTHING!!!
Wonder what they'll think when a 16 year old test drives a $30,000 car?

Good luck letting them let you. Where I live (NJ) you need to be 16 for a permit, so they might not let a 16 year old test drive a car considering they don't have a license.

I think you have to be 18 or older to be elligible. Sounds reasonable to me! I don't think I'd do this, because then the dealer might be suspicious.
"Yeah, I'd like to test drive the Lexus IS so I can get $50 of free software for my Palm."
"Your what, to who?"
"Nevermind, just let me drive the car."

hahah I think the rules say you have to be 21.
I also think it'd be pretty embarrassing to ask the car dealer if he could sign this paper... but what the heck we're talking $50 here! Emailed to your mailbox 10 days after signature!
Car dealerships always have these free gifts when you test drive certain cars... (techbargains.com always lists them)....
Best thing to do is go up to the car salesman and tell them outright that you want the $50 GC... and that they don't have to waste their time having you test drive the car for "no reason" and to just give you the GC....

LOL!!!!
Dam, I knew in some situations that you would have to be 18 to get the promotion but I didn't see anything in the fine print!
Oh crap the fine print is on another link there, I'll just have my parents do it because you have to be 21.

Already? Its only been a few days.
I actually found a $5 off of $35 at Handago...so I will have $55 to spend...real nice for 20mins worth of fun.
Handago or Lexus, not sure who is handling the promotion...sent me an e-mail saying something like "when you check-out use this code" except they didn't send the code. I e-mailed them and they replied saying it was a mistake and sent me the code...I just thought it was a bit funny becuase I read the e-mail 10 times to make sure I wasn't stupid and overlooking the code.

How long did it take for you to get code after your test drive? I faxed my coupon yesterday and was wondering how long it would take.

Well, I'm sure everybody's wonderin', so in the spirit of simple fun, I'll go ahead and ask: what was the code? I've at least driven by my local Lexus dealer -- that should count for something. ;)

Each person gets their own code, one time use.
I faxed my code over at 11:30AM on 3/14 and got my e-mail at 6:17pm 3/19.
Of course I had to re-email them to actually get the code (see previous post), but I got a response 3 hours later with the correct code.
I like this e-mail rewards thing, very quick turn-around.

Don't have time to look tonight, will post tomorrow.
One problem I noticed...all non-software goes to another site which you can't use gift cert...
I wanted the 128mb sandisk MS for $6 plus shipping, but that might not happen...I e-mailed them to ask if I can use my gift cert towards that with no response yet.

Thanks for the tip on the $50 coupon. I do have one question though. How is the email identified in your inbox? I have mine coming to my hotmail account and I get so much junk email there, I am affraid of deleteing it by mistake. I probably haven't yet, since I did my test drive yesterday and faxed it yesterday.
PS: I'd hate to think I drove a Lexus for nothing.:D

Does anyone know if the entire $50 certificate must be used at the same time or can it be spread over more than one purchase?
Probably more than one. It probably works like a gift card.

I just got mine. Yay! I hope that $5 off $35 is still valid. I wonder if the money can be used towards the hardware or cases sold on that site. Oooo maybe i'll get a keyboard for my TG50 or a stylus or memory card. OOooo

Only software. The $5 off $35 is dead, but there is a new code...I think its spring35 or something...it should pop up when you log into site.

I drove up in my 85 Chevy P/U that looks like the ones in Iraq, you see pictures of on the side of the road, where they were hit by a missles. They didn't even ask me to drive the Lexus, they just filled out the form.
They asked me to park it around back, while they filled out the form.

LOL... I sell cars.
You guys met salespeople who should be fired. The objective of the promotion is to make you love the car. I've given away a few beer coolers for test-driving my GMC trucks. My commission - roughly $4000. My expenses - $300.
Not too bad, is it? The numbers pushed me over the bonus point as well, so I picked up an extra $1500 from my boss.
$50 items are quite common. Enjoy the ride :-)
P.S. $4000 off a new Pontiac Grand Prix 2003 (including GTP) - if you are into sports sedans this month

I fully expected them to give me a hard time, and I really didn't want the salesperson to simply validate the offer. So, I decided to put my professional credentials right out there to guard against that.
I'm a postdoctoral researcher (soon to be professor) at a well-known university and I gave the salesperson my card right away and made sure to "dress the part." I never do that kind of thing-- it feels so pretentious, but I didn't want to be blown off either.
Well, I may have overdone it because I got the full treatment-- tour of the dealership and shop, detailed introduction to the vehicle and test drive. And at the end of it, the salesperson asked if I wanted to "take it home today." I was shocked! I thought I had made it clear that I was only looking, that I was not in the market to buy right then, but that the Handango offer brought me into the dealership. I thought the salesperson was taking so much time with me because he had little else to do or b/c he was simply really kind. But he seemed completely sincere when he asked if I wanted to buy it right then.
I will say this, though, the guy didn't completely waste his time. Before the test drive, I was *set* on buying a BMW 3-series after I make a substantial dent in my student loans. But now, I will seriously consider the Lexus IS when the time comes. And if I go with the Lexus, I'll give that guy (if he's still there) and that dealership my business.

Hey, if all that make you feel better about ripping the guy off for a $50 Handango coupon, go for it. I personally felt better making it clear upfront that the only thing I wanted was the coupon, and letting the guy decide if he wanted to give it to me or tell me to get lost. Also wasting as little of everybody's time as possible.

As I mentioned, the guy didn't waste his time as I *fully* plan to purchase a vehicle of that quality. That I will now seriously consider buying a Lexus over a BMW seems to me a good investment of his time. Not everyone who walks into a dealership will leave having bought the car. Do salespeople who handle these customers waste their time? This is the nature of selling cars, houses, or anything else.
I told the guy right up front that I was not buying *then*, but forsaw a purchase in the future, which is why I was so shocked when he asked me so sincerely if I wanted to take it home that day.
So while you may have only been interested in the coupon, I was interested in the coupon *and* getting more information about the car, which is why I didn't simply want the coupon validated, but instead spent my time to learn about the car and to test drive it. To waste his time would have been to waste my time, and I don't often waste my time.
