Went out to lunch to get some T-Bell, stopped by Staples figuring "What the heck..." and there it was!
The price they had on the item label was actually 388.98. So, I got it for $10 cheaper. I picked up the hardcase for it as well since it is free after rebate.
I haven't even opened the box yet. I'm at work, so won't get to really play with it until I get home.
Oh, I am in Delaware.
Enjoy!
Mike

I'm fascinated. What with all the negative opinions and user problems reported, why did you opt for a T5 over, say, a T3? In the days since the announcement of the T5, I've really come to appreciate my T3 more than ever. I've experienced a re-awakening to the awesome device that it is. It really is only the slider that I would like to ditch.

MikeGet it out and charge it! That way, you won't have to wait around at home for it to get through charging!

Seriously, if you can, just get the T5 out along with the charger. The rest can stay in the box. The power adapter plugs into the device like a cell phone.

Of course, you might not have the opportunity at work, but it is simple to do. Palm recommends 2 to 3 hours, but I recommend 4 hours. If not possible, charge it at least 3 hours.

Congratulations!

Take care,
Lance

I'm not totally sold, yet, but I wanted to check it out.
I currently have a T3. I really hate the slider. At first, I thought it was novel, but it grew very tiring. My T3 is currently broken - the slider is broken such that I can not even use it in full screen mode. This has furthered my sour attitude towards the slider. Other than that, I do really like the T3. As far as the other features you lose... personally, I never use the voice recorder, I never use the vibration feature, and I do not have any add-ons requiring the universal connector.
I will miss the indicator light, but only for charging feedback.
I am definately a power user. I was dissappointed with the specs and issues on the T5, but having fullscreen 24x7 is great. Lances careful approach alleviates some concerns about the device stability - but obviously not all. Even the T3 had numerous software incompatibilities. Shadow (one of my very necessary programs) was unusable until Jeff Mitchell figured out what PalmOne did and published a fix.
Anyhoo, that's the story for now.
A few days with the T5 will tell for sure if I keep it or not.

I picked up some styluses labeled for Tungsten & Zire at Staples today too. They have different heads for T5, E, or Zire 72. No T5's in yet in that store.
T3 availability is fading fast. Face it Folks, this is going to be it soon for a Palm device with high rez+. Tapwave is OK, but the size of that company scares me.
Thanks for reminding the present and past T3 owners, myself included, of all the "issues" when it came out. They're computers - They all have "issues".

I love my T3! And I love the slider!

I can't believe you guys are counting out the T3 already?
The T5 isn't gonna force me to shelf my T3, but the Treo 650 just might.

The T3 is great (except the battery life). I just happen to be in between PDA/PDA phones and wanted to try out the latest. Palm One is far from perfect- the lack of built inWiFi in this unit is discouraging. If I keep it, I'll get the WiFi SD card.
I have been a Moderator at PDAPhone.com and have had way to many devices over the last 4 years, but to get the best featured phone or best featured PDA, I still think that you gotta go with 2 devices. Just too many compromises in the combination devices. I had a Treo 600 on Sprint and got tired of having to lock the keys on the "candy bar" phone to keep it from dialing out from my pocket. They did address 2 of my complaints: low rez screen and no replaceable battery- but I don't think that I can go back to even 320x320 anymore. The cameras are a waste of space and money. The extended battery on my bluetooth Verizon V710 will keep me surfing 90% of where I go on my PDA, or laptop for hours and hours.
Enjoy the T3, but they won't be around long for new purchases.

No one can be sure that the T3 will be quickly discontinued. P1 could keep it alive for months, perhaps until people stop buying it.

Sorry, But I don't think that it looks good for more T3's. Just looking at the history of other "replaced" devices with Palm. Also the cost of manufacturing a "slider" unit in very busy China factories.

Well, most, if not all, of the "issues" with the T3 were solved with the ROM update. A ROM update is not going to fix the many shortcomings of PalmOne's newest high-end model - IMHO.

I'm feeling the same about my T3 too :) but I don't mind the slider.

The next ROM update for the T5 may be to Cobalt. The hardware and memory can support it. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not, being a believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". But I'm sure that there will be a ROM update soon, as PalmOne wanted to meet their annual October release date whether Cobalt (or this Garnet version) was ready or not!

Dawg - Where the hell is your T5 review? Are you keeping it?

"Lance" is covering about everything that I could come up with, However, I did promise a IPAQ HX4700 vs T5 comparison - That I hope to get done tomorrow.

I still have my T5, if that answers your question, and the battery life is very nice. There are issues with current additional software and this new version OS, so I'm slowing adding essential software only at this point. I want this to work, as there isn't many other options without going back on features or over to the dark side...

I stopped by a Staples in the Washington DC suburbs. They had a holder with a T5 price tag, but inside was a TE! So much for promoting the new $400 product. The manager said they had received T5s and would be inserting them tomorrow.

I just got mine from Staples in Connecticut. At first the sales guy said he didn't have any T5's and acted fairly positive about it. I then produced a printout showing the unit and the Staples "item number" and asked if he could check inventory electronically to see if any other local stores had it in stock. When he checked, he found he had 3 in the back room. Apparently they didn't put them on display yet. :-)
