With all the charging and hotsycing, do you think the rubber cover might break off?
Is anyone using T/NR/NX series connectors (including the battery charger)?

Hope this helps. So far, I have had no problem with the Serial cover, and I hot sync almost every day, and charge it every night. I have had mine about 3 weeks now. I am trying to be very careful with it. I am using the car charger that I purchased for my NR, and it works fine.

Its kind of rubbery. I think it may look a whole lot less durable that it really is. If you kind of tug and pull at it, its pretty tough.
I don't worry about it at all.

I'm such a moron that I thought it was removable...so I tried to remove it...it didn't move...so I tried again (with ++ force)...it still wouldn't come off...I hope my stupidity can help you sleep better about this...

I am also charging this with:
1. The extra power supply and dongle.
2. The Boxwave minisync cable (http://www.boxwave.com).
Sony tells you to only use the cradle. I think they are worried about levering the connector since the dongle has to insert at an angle. If you pressed down hard, you could hurt the connector. If you are careful (only moderately so) this shouldn't be a problem.
Someone on another thread suggested putting one of those little rubber feet things you can get at the hardware store to protect this and that is probably not a bad idea if you are worried about it.
Bottom line for me, I haven't used the cradle for 3 weeks and probably wont again. I don't like how lightweight it is. If you have all the cables attached, it seems to be wanting to move around. Also, getting a positive connection on the cradle is more difficult than just shoving one of my two other methods in there (dongle or boxwave).
I now sync with Bluetooth so the only reason i have for connecting is for recharge.

Synching with Bluetooth seems like the way to go, I noticed a couple of $40 very small usb-bt plugs, figure that one of them will save me a lot of space when going to a tradeshow next week. (smile)
In line with the tread, yes the cover seems flimsy, but I also didnot manage to pull the "removable" cover out. He he. chances are the it will turn out to be the toughest thing on my NZ.

I would have rather seen a little better 'thought' put into the cover. The cover provided with the NZ seems more of an 'afterthought. Would have been nice to have it metal... with it clicking closed. I, like many others, think it is the cheesiest part of the Sony, and they really should have done a little better job with it than they did.
I use my cradle, and I do agree with JohnJ80 that it is flimsy. If you don't correctly put it in the charger right the first time, you end up having to 'wiggle' it around till the feet of the cradle insert into the recessed feet-holders at the bottom of the NZ. I've put mine on the charger a few times.. thinking it was charging... and nothing happened. The light came on... but it was only on because I was 'pushing' down on the CLIE once I released the unit from my hand and walked away... it broke the connection. They should have put a 'guide' down the sides of the charger... so it plops into the corrected position 'right' every time. Now I catch myself bending down to ensure it is 'seated' properly in the cradle.
Iceman,
Yeah, I am with you, why not having a little metal lid which is spring loaded and holds it self closed.
The Cradle need a click lock. a nice little button to push to release the Clie, the Clie should slide in by it self and go "click"
