I'm seriously thinking about replacing my Sony Clie NR70V and I'm looking for suggestions. I mostly use my PDA for email and reading downloaded text. The new one should have a color screen and either have Wifi built-in or have the ability to upgrade to Wifi with a card. While I like the large screen of my Clie, I can live with a 320 x 320 if I have to and I never use the camera. I don't travel as much as I used to, so I can't justify spending a lot for a top of the line model. I may end up waiting until prices drop, but wanted to test the waters. Any suggestions on which models I should consider?
Thanks in advance,

The TH-55 without a doubt. They're getting harder to find though (but Office Depot seems to always have some in stock). Wi-Fi, Multimedia, Hi-Res+ color, INCREDIBLE battery life (you could probably get 20-24 hours just reading an eBook), 32Mb built-in RAM, will take you old Memory Stick (always nice not to have buy new flash). THey tend to weigh in at about $350, but if you keep your eyes open, you can usually find one for about $300...

I know we are all Palm enthusiasts, but it sounds like a Blackberry may meet your needs better than a Palm OS device (OK enough flames already). I am intrigued that new Blackberry is going to include WiFi but the top of the line Palm is not. Honestly I would not leave Palm because I rely on the PIMs but if I was only interested in e-mail and WiFi I would be jumping ship.

Indeed, Blackberry's are great devices! If they had one with a touchscreen, they could dominate the market. Actually, if there was a blackberry with the palm os, but could use the blackberry interface, that would be cool.

I would recommend the TH-55, but the TC could probably work for what you need. Both have good reviews, but I really enjoy the capabilities of my TH-55.

I can't see myself investing in a Blackberry. Maybe my knowledge is too limited on them, but I just don't think you get enough value for your money. I'm not crazy about another monthly charge for connectivity. Two suggestions for the TC/TH models. Anyone else want to weigh in?

What the heck is a blackberry aside from the name of a fruit :)

And I agree, the TH is a TERRIFIC PDA. The battery life is truly amazing for daily PIM/ebook reading/wifi purposes.

How abt the new Palm Tungsten T5? I would like a TH55 but too bad it's hard to find nowadays. To be honest, comparing the looks, TH55 is like Brad Pitt while T5 is just a normal looking guy. Sigh. :D

Or if u just want a mid range PDA, how abt T|E or wait for E2? If Sony hasn't pulled out from most of the markets, I would suggest TJ37 or it's successor. T|E doesn't have a camera (nor BT or WiFi) but it's a powerful PDA in terms of speed and memory if u place along Clies of comparable specs.

Somehow PalmOne handhelds have shorter battery lives. I wonder why? How did Sony do it? They pack so much multimedia stuff on their Clies and yet their battery lives are superb?

How about the NX80? I 've upgraded from my NR70V about six months ago and so far I am completely happy with it. I know that it's not as advanced as the models mentioned before but it's definitely a good choice if you take the money factor under consideration.
I've bought mine for $230 USD from Ebay and I've spent another $ 60 for a refurbished wireless card. You get a decent camera (1.3MP), a voice recorder and dual card support (memory stick and CF card), just to name a few...
At the same time, you don't spent a fortune for a PDA that will be selling for 100 to 200 USD after a year or so. Hmmm... This definitely brings back memories.... :( Let's say that I was really dissapointed when I couldn't sell my NR70V even though I bought it for $560 USD

Gives us more info to help you. Based on your small requirements list, any of the following will do.

Sony TH55 (if you can find it)
PalmOne T|C (Browser is not the lastest )
HP 3715 (Since PIM was not specified: alarm issue)

All have good batteries based on reviews. I would read reviews/forums @ brighthand/pdabuyersguide/PIC/iPAQHQ/PDAgold.

After reading, pick what best fits your other needs.

I am in a similar position in that I am wondering whether the change my NX70V. I was considering either a T3, TH55 or even a T5. For what you are after just for the least amount of battery stress go for the TH55. I think my requirements are more processor/memory demanding in that I want a PDA that does the MP3, video and GPS plus a few games thrown in.

The only problems I have with the TH55 is the processor speed and more worrying the cost of a 512MB or 1G memory stick. I Currently have a 512MB compact flash and 128MB memory stick.

I think the memory cost is the real issue...at the moment an 1G SD card for the palms can be bought at under a £80 or $150 where as the memory stick...i hate to think of the cost...but over £200 for sure....

I would recommend the Tungsten C. The screen is a bit on the small side and "only" 320x320, but it is crisp and very bright. The battery lasts a long time (especially if you can lay off the Wi-Fi a bit), it's fast, it uses common memory sticks and Palm accessories, and you can buy it as a slightly-blemished open-box unit at Overstock.com for around $US 260. No camera; you won't miss it. Sound is mono; if I want to listen to music, I have other better options. I'd like the ability to use another browser, but the one in it isn't bad, and I really haven't dug into whether NetFront is a possibility. I've been quite happy with mine as a replacement for a T-615.
