I evaluated TextPlus for a little while and then I see Ender which appears to be similar to what TextPlus does. So I thought I would get people opinions.

If you use one or both of these could you post what you think of them. If both compare and let me know why you prefer one over the other.

Thanks

I've never heard of Ender (http://standalone.com/palmos/ender/) until you mentioned it, so can't compare. However, I've been very happy with TextPlus. I've compared it with others such as WorldComplete (http://www.cic.com/products/general/) and found it to be superior. It has been updated several times since I've started using it, which is always nice to see. Stand Alone makes some nice products (I'm a big fan of Super Names) so I imagine Ender is a decent app.

Since both have trial periods, I suggest you try them out and see which you prefer. Post your results here for others to see. :)

I used Ender, but it doesn't work on POS 5.x, so if that's what you're using, your decision has been made for you. :-(

Yup OS 5.... looks like textplus. I heard of WordComplete too, I recall thinking it doesn't look like it was as good as TextPlus. I assume there are no others aside from these that work with OS5 that people prefer over textplus?

If not then I will stay with it. I do like it. But ya never know when there might be something better ya don't know about.

I use WordComplete. I really like it.
What are some of the features in TextPlus that tip a scale for you?

Me I don't know how the programs compare I was just looking for some opinions on the programs. TextPlus just happens to be the only one i knew of until I seen ender and then heard of WordComplete here in this thread. I think I'm going to install WordComplete to see how it works. I'm always a curious person. So even if I like a piece of software I like to learn what others think of it too :)

As I post more and more here you will likely see a trend in my curiousity.

I second KennyD's request for knowledge... How is TextPlus better than WordComplete? I use WordComplete all the time, but have never tried TextPlus...

I installed WordComplete to see what it looks like and to check it vs TextPlus....

Here is my quick observance. TextPlus does everything WordComplete does with the following extras. Phrases: It will list common phrases that might be what you are going to write. And you can add new phrases just like you can add a word (WordComplete also has the ability to add words). TestPlus offers the ability to sort the words list by length/frequency/A-Z and then asending or decending based on any 1 of the 3. Same sort methods for phrases. There are some minor other features that I haven't explored but the main differences I listed.

I'll have to check it out. From the screen shots I always assumed that TextPlus was more of a static utility like pulling up Decuma or the keyboard at the bottom of the screen, than a word pop up like WordComplete. I think I would like the pop up type module better, but I'll check out TextPlus. I like the sound of the sorting options especially.

No, TextPlus works the same way. When you're inputting text into your datebook, a memo or whatever, it will pop up a list of words and phrases based on your input. You can also enter data directly into the app if you want, and then copy it to another application or just add it to the dictionary for later use.
I'll have to look at WordComplete again to remember why I liked TextPlus more. It has been a while.

Quickly comparing WordComplete to TextPlus, here are some observations:

WordComplete is simply not as robust as TextPlus. As you can see below, TextPlus has many more available options.

TextPlus:
* lets you turn the app on/off for individual applications (Applications)
* provides various sort options, as mentioned above (by Word List and Phrase List)
* gives more flexibility with the popup lists (TextPlus Anywhere)

TextPlus:
* gives color options for popup lists
* offers Graffiti Echo so you can see your strokes on screen (with adjustable line width)
* offers FREE databases for other languages (versus $9.99 for WordComplete)
* I believe offers a longer demo period versus only 5 days for WordComplete
* is priced $19.95 versus $24.99 for WordComplete

Oh yeah. TextPlus is an undisputed champion. I really never gave it the time of day because I thought it was much more of a application box that would open when triggered. I wonder why I never saw a screen shot of the "anywhere" feature. Even after you mentioned it hherbzilla, I expected to see a very large window with three tables to pop up : ) TextPlus is a lot better than WordComplete. I actually got WordComplete along with Jot a few years ago. I've always liked it and still do, but it's not hard to like TextPlus more.

And, finally, a few screen shots of TextPlus in action:

I am a registered user of TextPlus for several years and PDAs (first a Handspring VISOR DELUXE, then a NR70V).
No bugs, no 'but'!

And you can download free word-databases for several languages (a must in my case for I use it in Portuguese!)

TextPlus is, IMHO, an indispensable productivity tool.

And, finally, a few screen shots of TextPlus in action:

In the 1st screenshot... What setting makes the 3rd box? I just have 2 the phrase and word list but the 3rd to the right and overlapping kind of the other 2 I don't have.

I really think TextPlus is excellent. Thanks for the great comparison, hherbzilla!

One thing I wish it would do is to use the current document you're editing as a source for potential completions. For example, if I use some odd company name, XYZCo, the second time I start to enter "XY..." it should find the previous word in the document and offer it as one of the completions. Emacs (the most wonderful editor ever conceived) used to do this and it was glorious. I sent email to the developer suggesting this be added to TextPlus but I never got a response.

You can double click your stylus on a word and choose add to add it to the list of words. :)

Palm247 (formerly PDA247 formerly Cliesource ...) has a link to a Palmgear poll which lets you save 20.04% on some utilities, including TextPlus. Since that app gets high marks here and I can't use Ender, I bought. Link: http://www.clieuk.co.uk/index.shtml (look for the PalmGear logo in the news items). I don't remember if there's some kind of deal about selecting the link on Shaun's site that lets the PalmGear folks know it's him. I also see there's a link to Palm247 at the bottom of the 1src home page.

You can double click your stylus on a word and choose add to add it to the list of words. :)Yes, I know about this, but the great thing about the emacs feature is that it is automatic: words are made available to the completion code simply because you use them -- no extra activity required.

That would be a great feature. If it could learn words you use frequently I wouldn't have to add them :)
