this is your next cellphone
http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,60764,00.html
that's right, the nokia 9300. note that the 9300 is a lot smaller and sleeker than its older brothers. i just tried the old 9290, i have to say the PIM applications of the Symbian on the communicator series are extremely handy and useful. i wish i could keep the 9290, but unfortunately its pc suite is a peice of junk.... it doesn't SYNC!
if you are not looking for something to replace your clie, sorry i wasted your time. but if that's the case, then why would you be looking for a smartphone?

Nope, I don't think so because it doesn't have Bluetooth, a requirement in my book. I'm not looking for a replacement *YET* because the UX-50 is so versatile they are a long way away from developing a convergence unit that will do everything the UX can do and more.

Just jumping in here, guys, 'cause I haven't been in a long time. And I just wanted to reiterate that I just simply love pie! Juicy, luscious pie! Ummm Boy! Pie and my UX-50, and I'm good to go!
I'm done now...

SMEGGIE, obviously you haven't been following the news. everybody is crazy about the *new* Nokia 9300... BLUETOOTH? It's not mentioned in the frontpage because of its insignificance compared to all the other features. Nokia 9300 does have bluetooth.... Review this list of features... http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,60765,00.html
and feel free to drool all you want. no one's gonna blame ya!
and if you'd like VGA camera and WiFi with that, check out the N9300's older brother... Nokia 9500...

I's needs a Crackberry to smoke in ma pipe, mofo...
I don't NEEEEEEED one, I just thought it was cool. I've always like the always-on email idea although it is still unacceptably weak on the current Blackberries that my co-workers use. It doesn't handle text very well and the messages they send with it makes them appear illiterate.
I am still using a T68i and I am growing very tired of it. I need a new toy, that's all. :)

it has not been released yet. it's scheduled for release 1st quarter of 05. if you don't mind a bigger size with WiFi and Camera, check out the 9500 (http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,54106,00.html), which will be released pretty soon on www.expansys-usa.com for $800+

I have one and I love it. I think you have to go into it realizing that it isn't as good with somethings as the Clie (obviously). The internet is slow, but it does come in in much the same format. I have a database of over 2,000 people and it will call out like a breeze to any of them. I don't use the bluetooth feature, so I can't comment on it. The main plus is the price. I looked at the Sony E. P 900 in England, but to get one unlocked will cost a fortune. If you buy a blackberry in October you get a rebate that brings it down to $199. It contains my complete Outlook including the calendar which is a real plus. Anyway, I felt I should give my two cents worth....

Question for the experts in the crowd: Can I use the 7100 as a bluetooth modem to connect my T3 to the internet? I currently have a SE T610 on T-mobile and it works great with my Palm and with my laptop. If this Blackberry can do the same thing, I might be interested in getting one as well. It is certainly much easier to justify spending $200 for one of these, compared to $500-600 for a Treo or one of the other high-powered smartphones.

Not that I'm an expert or anything but...
My guess is that you can use the 7100 as a modem just like your T610. Again, this is just a guess. :)

RIM has announced on September 27th that they are going to sell an aftermarket connection for Palm OS. As to when it will be released, I can't say, as it doesn't appear on the site yet. I guess that will mean all the Clie UX-50 programs will be interchangable with the Blackberry. I do know that when I tried to add WorldMate to my Blackberry it kept causing a syntax error and was trying to download into the Clie. I got my money back from Handango, as the makers of Worldmate said it still hasn't been released for the 1700t, but it will download to the 7260 Blackberry through their own desktop software.

Well, how can you consider the Blackberry and not the new Treo 650...?!

Simply because I can't stand the Treo.

Hehehe, why's that? Honestly, I can't stand the new keys layout on the new Blackberry. That would be so annoying. Also the Treo has BT which you mentioned was vital. Figured it would accomodate you better.

I dunno...I feel like it is forced convergence. It doesn't seem useful to me. It's small and awkward - I've held it and played with it. It just doesn't feel good.

I really like this phone, it looks awesome. The nokia phone is also cool, but who wants a phone that looks like the UX-50, it will just look strange. The blackberry has everything you need from bluetooth to almost anything else. I think i might get it if someone gives it to me for my birthday.

Yes, the keyboard does take some getting used to, however, I don't think its any worse than the Treo. You just have to remember that letters on the right are pressed once and letters on the left are pressed twice. It does read automatically what you are trying to enter, but that isn't really an issue if its wrong, just delete it. Most of the time its right on with what you mean. I have detected that when you are dialing a 1-800 number it thinks you want 123 which is the answering service. Also, the reception isn't quite as good as the Blackberry 7230 but the screen is all over it as long as you are in a dark area. Its hell in the daylight, which makes me wonder if the developers ever went outside with it. This model is way better than my Nokia phone, and that's great. I've gone to Google news daily update, and it comes into my phone everyday at 12:45. My T-mobile e-mail comes in along with Earthlink. As yet, I haven't gotten the bill from T-Mobile, but my AT&T was beginning to nickel and dime me to death....
