Anyone have this happen? Soft reset & system levels do nothing.

hmm, hard reset? at least that way we will know if it's hardware or software. I'd do a full backup, then hard reset, then we might be able to narrow it down...

Does the datebook alarm work on speaker?
When System Sound in General preferences was set to On, does the system sound work thru the speaker?

I noticed that some hi-res games don't have sound when played on my NR70V, while everything is fine on my N760C. I assumed that, while supporting hi-res display, they don't support the enhanced sound hardware.

If you have already done a soft reset, I would do a restore with the last good save. If you do a backup now you might be saving a corrupted file.
