I've been having some trouble with my NX70 for the past few months. Sometimes when I press the button to perform a HotSync, I receive a fatal error and must reset the unit. This happens about 10-20 percent of the time I HotSync. I also have to exit the HotSync manager on my PC and restart it before attempting another HotSync.

At first I thought I had a loose connection at the USB port, but everything was fine. Then I thought it could be some software I have installed. I tinkered with that for a while to no avail. It's hard to nail down the cause of an intermittent problem like this.

Anyway, earlier this week, I placed my NX70 in the cradle and heard an alarming "CRUNCH." Several small parts of the HotSync connector on the cradle were loose, broken. Needless to say, I called Sony, and they're going to fix it, and check out the NX70 while their at it.

Not wanting to use the broken cradle, I used the HotSync cable that came with my wife's SJ33. Lo and behold, I've gotten a few fatal alerts. I hope nothing has been damaged internally. Maybe the HotSync connector on the PDA is loose/out of alignment.

Has anyone had any similar problems?

Yes, it usually is a renegade app or you have something corrupted in memory. If you really want to verify that you have a good clie, then you would have to back it up, do a hard reset and clear out your HotSync folder on the PC desktop. My guess is that you didn't hurt the clie any, as there can be several causes. The broken connector may have only been coincidental.

Before you would clear out your HotSync folder, make a backup copy first. The reason for doing so, is that the desktop is probably corrupted too. Unless you can pin point the offending app. At one time, I used Safe Sync from the old days, I found that it gave me occasional fatal errors when I tried to HotSync.
