WiFi scanner fot TH55 would make this great device even better...

Yesterday I was driving around my city with my friend and his iPaq 4150 (BT/WLAN) ruuning WiFiForum. Wow. This is what TH55 is missing - no need to hit Scan button, logging and monitoring signal strength of few AP's...

I know the reason why developers can't write this kind of app is that Sony doesn'a really want to release their WiFi API...

But now, since Clie is discontinued everywhere except from Japan, do you think that there is any chance that Sony would change their policy and we will be able to see "normal" WiFi scanner for this great device? Why keep the WiFi API and not pubish it?

There is even less of chance of Sony changing the policy now. Short answer is that since there is no one left in the US/Europe to release it, there is no one left in the US/Europe to release it. OK, that's an oversimplification, but that's basically it.

At this point, your only chance is to talk to someone at Sony in Japan. Given how this has gone in the past, unless you know someone pretty senior, there's not much of a chance.

Lemmie get this straight marcinm123...you're essentially saying you find hitting the 'Scan' button on our TH55's too much work? jeeez! :eek: ;)

Well, not having to hit the Scan button each few seconds would be great itself, but real WiFi should provide few more options than continous scan...

My point is that the built-in Sony scanner provides only basic functionality. Some kind of 3rd party app could change it but Sony apparently has some top-secret code in their WiFi API ;-)

This is most likely all they ever intended to give us. :(

As squeff, and TONNS of us on here have said over the years, the chances of Sony ever releasing their API's are between none, and zero. ;)
