And I got all excited... I thought it was a new announcement or something. Almost as bad as all the "Launcher X is here!" threads.

Do you think that this company is for real? Do you think that they really will have drivers by April?

The company seems real enough. Problem is tight lipped, American customer bashing, head in hole were the sun don't shine SONY.

They offer NO incentive for third party developers to bring forth a set of CF drivers. It seems making a profit on their own ( MS )Memory Sticks, is FAR, FAR more important than having a satisfied customer base.

Man, I was only trying to point out that we will have more than two options for CF memory compatibility. There are alot of head hunters out there, CHOP CHOP!

I thought there was only one group "publicly" working on the drivers, much less two or more. I know there are supposedly some friends of some friends on this board working on some, but none who have released anything official. Who are the 2+ others?

Is the only one working on a CF memory driver as far as I know.

So many of the posts in this thread went so off-topic that I split them into their own thread. You can continue the Nexio discussion there.

I am pretty sure that Soft Pocket will release this. Just by reading one Clie or Palm OS forum indicates the great desire for the driver. They are going to make a KILLING when they release this.Wonder if they're publicly traded. If so, better start buying their stock.

just cuz they are working on it doesn't mean they will ever finish it.

I mean remember the cliesource contest? nothing happened.

Sure these soft pocket solutions fellas can have high ambitions of finishing working CF drivers, but just cuz you want to try to get something done doesn't mean it will get done.

No they are NOT going to make a killing. In fact they hope just to break even. Too many negative people, it takes time to write apps, and sometime in April the developer will be looking for beta testers.

What I think will happen is that the NX series will become more desirable when the CF driver is released. Perhpas Sony will see sales of the NX series jump once you're able to use the inexpensive, large capacity CF cards -- and have 2 truely useful expansion slots. Will they LEARN anything from this? Not likely, but you never know.

I just picked up the NX-60 beause of the promise of a CF driver . Hope to get a B/T mem stick for connectivity and a 512 MB CF card for storing .mp3 audio. Hopefully this will be a reality by July!

Well almost, we'll see next month. Sony only promised WiFi card would work in the CF slot. I seriuosly doubt Sony will do anything. They are too busy making new clie models. What we have now is water over the dam for us.

Larry, can you explain this figure of speech.

Isn't the expression 'water under the bridge'.

This expression refers to the movement of the water. It is going under the bridge you are metaphorically standing on and you can't do anything about it. Also I believe it also refers to the fact that the water under the bridge is no longer the water that was under the bridge, an its in the past so let it go idea. Something along those lines.

Water over the dam is similar but more potent an expression:

Not only is the water gone, the point is no longer worth discussing, but the water went OVER the dam, not through it, so we couldn' even use it to generate electricity. It is not only a moot point, but t'was a useless experience.

Ahh, thanks I had never heard it before. Though it makes sense now that you have explained it.

A question. CF ='s Compact Flash, right? A CF disk can fit in the Wire Lan Card? If this is so, what is the advantage of CF over MS...from a very new Sony owner.

CF memory cards are a LOT cheaper than memory sticks for the same capacity. There are also a lot more accessories designed for CF slots compared to MS slots. Having said that, given Sony's openness about the specs of that slot (or lack thereof), I don't like the chances of getting support for much else in the way of CF devices even if memory drivers do appear ...
