Lost...

I was synchronising my handheld when this message "MemoryMgr.c,Line 3635 NULL handle" pops out. Despite doing hard and soft reset, it still pops out. It appears immediately after every reset, which cause me not to be able to off the tungsten E. Anyone knows what actaully happens here and what should I do to get rid of out? Althought below the fatal message is a reset button, it does not work even when I tap on it too. : (

Hi there
did you manage to solve this problem?
I've just upgraded to a Tungsten and have the same problem. Everything locks up and I can't do anything with it.
Thanks
Mike

I am a total newbie. I have had my T for over a year, and really just started using it in the past few months. However, I will put in my two cents worth on your problem. The same thing happened to me with my T on New Year's Eve. I was trying out various third-party finance apps. During the hot sync the palm crashed. I could not turn it off, and the reset button on the screen did not work. After a hard reset and another hot sync the same thing kept happening. If you were installing new applications during the hot sync, that could be your problem. You need to prevent the apps from installing during the hot sync. (Luckily I was only installing one new application, so it was easy for me to identify the offending program)
I know that there are a couple of ways to do this. I think I did it the hard way, by going into my palm user folder on my desktop, opening the back-up folder and deleting all of the files that the finance program installed. Then I hard reset the palm and did another hot sync. The offending application did not install, and my T has worked beautifully ever since. If you were installing several applications this process can be tedious and problematic if you aren't sure which files to delete.
Apparently the same thing may happen if you are upgrading your palm, and some of your old palm apps are not compatible with your new OS. In that case you may have to install each application one at a time to weed out incompatible apps.
There is another way to delete the apps. The warm- reset mentioned in another reply. Press the scroll UP button while simultaneously pushing the recessed reset button and keep the UP key held down for several seconds. Go into the Memory app and delete the offending application; then soft reset once again.

It could be because you have installed the T3's DIA patch or other DIA skins? 160x160 and 320x320 PDAs don't support those patches/skins and will probably crash your palm. Do a warm reset and delete those statusbar/DIA-related files and then soft reset again.
Another reason, you've installed a bad program/conduit into your PDA...

ok i got the memorymgr.c,line:3635, NULL Handle fatal alert and i tried the reset button and i tried the up button AND reset button...neither has stopped the error. I have a Palm Zire 71. it was working fine this morning after I had it sit and charge the battery but without warning, i went to use my camera button and as soon as i slide my palm upward to activate the camera function, it gets this error. i can't click on the Photos icon either. my palm is now useless and everything i have read has not helped. i even took off all extra programs i had on it before i tried both types of resets and it still has not fixed it. someone help me please...i can't do my work without my Palm!

for the warm reset, hold the up button, press the reset in the back, and release the up button after the palm logo has been and gone on the display...
Have you upgraded from a previous Palm? Just there might be some compatibility issues with old software, you might need to hard reset and rename your folder as suggested, so you can install them one by one to see which is causing the problem...

My E2 crashes when Syncing the PIM DBs
Some diagnostic questions: Since when did you E2 started to crash when syncing PIM DBs? (e.g. did you recently upgrade from another Palm? or installed any applications that share the PIM DB?) Do you have any/enough free space in your NVFS (Device) RAM for the DB?

New E2. New install of the Desktop tool. I had the PIMs syncing. I have done hard resets with restores from SD backups. I can't say what triggered the crashes...

ok, if you think your SD backup is the most up-to-date, you may configure your hotsync (right-click hotsync icon in taskbar, then select custom...) to "handheld over desktop", and hotsync again to see if the problem persists.
p.s., before doing this, make sure your SD backup is 100% correct, otherwise, u may try "desktop over handheld" to overwrite your E2's DB with the Palm Desktop version.

My Palm is most-up-to-date as I don't really use the Palm Desktop software. The PIM is set to handheld-overwrites-desktop. And that's the situation which gives me a crash.
I didn't try desktop-overwrites-handheld, but I did try turning off the first PIM that syncs. Result: the second PIM crashes the Palm. I turn that off and the third PIM crashes it...

Have you installed the correct Palm Desktop version that supports your E2? Which program did u use to backup your PIM DBs? (Could it be the compatibility of the backup application and the new NVFS PIM structure? Just wondering...) My other suggestion would be backup your data again, then "remove" your desktop user account (by **renaming** your user folder under .../program files\PalmOne\[your username], just in case you need to revert back to this version later) and then create a fresh/new user account and use that for synchronizing. (Note you can use synchronize the files because the Palm and Desktop should be able to identify the latest entries of the PIM and write over the old entries.)

I used the Desktop that came with the E2.
I tried deleting the backup folder that the desktop creates.
I used RescoeBackup.

Have you upgraded any built-in softwares? (e.g. Doc2go, or ROM, or music player?) Actually, I'm running out of idea... Backup your data in Palm to SD card, then hard reset your palm then try sync with desktop right away (*without* restoring from SD card). See if the hotsync succeed or not, then work from here on.

No upgrades to the built in stuff. The ROM can not be changed on the E2...

I have similar symptoms with slight variations. I've put a few new apps on the SD card but hadn't really tried any of them. I also deleted a few apps from the E2 directly today ... mostly in an effort to get it to sync properly again.
The message I get is either:
MemoryMgr.c,Line:3751, Free handle ... after a sync that otherwise *seems* to go mostly as planned, or
Fatal Exception ... after a similar sync process.
In both cases I have to do a reset to get it out of that window.
I am fairly sure I have any possibly offending apps OFF both the card and the device. I even reinstalled Palm Desktop (with the option of using Outlook to sync) on my computer, thinking that was the problem.
It's still happening.
I'm printing out this thread so far and hope to sit and tweak things later with some of these suggestions, but if someone knows what my specific Line:3751 means, I'd be grateful for ANY info!
New PDA user,
Thanks.
