1. File Managers can't "open" subdirectory on MS:
-I copied a folder (called "KOS") of pda programs from computer to memory stick (I have a ms reader on my vaio notebook computer)
-McFile sees the file but won't open it, saying: "Invalid filename, or path, or volume label or something...:/palm/PROGRAMS/KOS" :confused:
-FileZ shows that the folder has only 2 files when it has something like 15 files. :confused:
-Luckily ClieFiles (!) sees everything (!) in the folder. :rolleyes:

How come McFIle and FileZ (aren't they the kings of file mgt?) can't access the memory stick subdirectory? What's the " legit " way of creating subdirectories (or is there some preference that I'm missing) ?

2. Problem: mystery of the disappearing DA
-I'm installing files from memory stick by "moving" to internal memory.
-One DA disappears from memory stick but never shows up in RAM
-I tried "seeing the DA" on internal memory by using Clie Files, FileZ, McFile.
I tried installing McPhling, but the DA is not available in menu of apps to add a heart to.
-DA tab of AppShelf sees other DAs but not this one.
-Does not show up with hotsync install
-Nonetheless, when I copy to RAM, Cliefiles tells me that there is already an existing copy and asks me if it should overwrite the existing copy (I tap yes).

Any advice?

My memory stick: Sandisk
The disconcertingly disappearing DA: ZDic_DA
for the freeware dictionary, ZDic (the ZDic app itself installed fine tho).

I figured out part 2; i must have been tinkering with a corrupted download. Re-downloading the original DA zip file again solved the disappearing DA problem (i now need an emoticon to display, "boy do i feel embarrassed now. I ought to have thought of re-downloading right away." :o ).

But I am still not sure what is going on with the file manager thing.
I tried downloading the attractive Resco Explorer, but it also gives me an error window saying "Fileloading failed: NoSuchFile" for the KOS subdirectory on my memory stick.

I thought Resco Explorer, McFile and FileZ were supposed to be a lot better than the built-in Clie Files. :confused:

None of them let you change creator IDs or stuff like that, though, right?
Just attributes? (and resco also zips files for you apparently)~

On the MS, it sounds like file system corruption.

Hook the thing up to your compy and then run MSImport/DataImport/Whatever, then run Scandisk/Norton Disk Doctor/Whatever on your memorystick to see if it can fix it...

whoa, cyker, you were right! It wasn't an issue of ClieFiles versus other file managers; the folder was corrupted.

Thanks for the tip! That really had me stumped.
