since the NX doesn't have a lens cover like the NZ - how would one go about cleaning the lens for dust, oil residue, etc.?
thanks!

I don't know about cleaning oil residue. For dust and grit removal in all those grooves around the lens, I use a soft-bristled tooth brush. It gets all the gunk out. A soft-bristled toothbrush with some rubbing alcohol on it would probably take off the oil too, but it would have to be a VERY small amount of alcohol or else you could get the alcohol into the camera internals. I don't know what would happen if alcohol got inside. With the lens being so small, I don't know how you'd ever notice that you had oil film on the lens
Unless you tried to oil it... :)

use compressed air, used on photo lenses, do not touch.!

Submicron,
I don't recommend use alcohol on this lens... normally is made with acrylic (except if exist oil on the lens, it's the only way for clean it in this case)
I recommend to use cotton swabs with lens cleaning paper (never use dry paper, use your breath for humidify a little the lens)

I agree, compressed air, but not high pressure, I use a squeeze bulb from 35 mm camera case. No liquids, as you risk ruining the lens. In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I recommend to use cotton swabs with lens cleaning paper (never use dry paper, use your breath for humidify a little the lens) Rubbing alcohol won't hurt an acrylic plastic. You need a much stronger solvent, such as benzene or acetone, to damage an acrylic plastic. But Q-tips and lens paper are certainly excellent suggestions. :)

Wow. I have to remind myself of Q-tips. Can anyone verify that the tip will even touch the little pinhole camera?

The idea isn't use the Q-TIP for clean the pinhole...
Press the Q-TIP over the table the make a cone (It's very hard to do an small one) with the lens tissue and put the Q-TIP inside the cone... don't press to much because the paper is too soft...
This not clean the lens, only the pinhole... for clean the lens, you have to disassemble the camera and expose the CCD... I don't recomend it, but it's the only way to clean the lens...

i dont bother cleaning the lens. i mean how dirty can it get? when not in use, just turn it around so its not exposed.

how about visitng a camera shop to purchase a proper lens cleaning cloth..... these are very soft, smooth and generally coated with a material that will lift grease without anu fliuds or real effort...... this is the safest option...
Alternativity the pouch that comes with Oakley sunglasses would be sufficient and just as safe...

The lens tissue is the proper cleaning lens option not a cloth...

"I recommend to use cotton swabs with lens cleaning paper (never use dry paper, use your breath for humidify a little the lens)"
I would not recommend using your breath to humidify the lens, your breath carries a great deal of microscopic particles, including saliva and bacteria, do you really want this on your lens?
Low pressure compressed air to remove fine dust or specialised photo cleaning products are a much safer bet.

I would say, goto a photo shop & ask.
Q-Tips alone may leave small threads on the lens (lint).
Eyh c'mon. Oil is so adhesive it woudn't find a way into the pinhole. Dust is blown away with a deep breath- unless you are a smoker- than maybe two of them will do the job[breaths].
This small little tiny cute fuddling hole is so.. well I told you there won't get something inside or did you recognize any??
Hey again the forum didn't log me in!!
Why??

Joe And what if you had bad breath? Then your lens would be dirty, and stink too!
lol
Okay I stick to the squeeze bulb..

I repeat again, the only safe cleaning method is low pressure air, preferably from a squeeze bulb. The lens itself is far too small to use anything else on it. The lens opening isn't much bigger than the period symbol on my keyboard. Pouring any liquid in it, is also a no-no!
