Great, let's start everything over and let me be the first post.
I still love my NR!

I do also. Pre-ordered mine, and have never regretted it, even with the MS issues. I skipped the NX because of the "new" factor of switching processor environments until they work out the bugs.... I am examining the NZ, but following news closely, in the mean time, I still have my NR and without a single dead pixel. :D

The NR was my 3rd machine after the Vx and the m505. What a quantum leap it was. I could never go back to normal screen even if HiRes. NX not for me, does not bring anything I need (except some speed but can live without it.
NZ will probably pass also, I am looking at the iQue3600 with envy :D

I just got my nr70v yesterday after upgrading from the HandEra 330 and I must say it's an incredible upgrade!!
I didn't know how I'd like the controversial clamshell design, but now having used it, it's an incredible design.
Now if I can settle down and use it normally.... :D

I think you're right, I've noticed that I can get quick answers here.
It's great having a whole SITE dedicated to the Clie. HandEra had that for a while but there wasn't as big of a user-base.

My Sony Clie NR70 is the most unstable device I have ever used. I wish I had bought a Palm device like my previous one. Well, here's why I say that.
Does anyone get a crash on boot up that looks like a squigly blue line near the bottom, over the top of the word "Launch"? The program screen is blank except for the white screen.
I get this after a hard reset and this is at least the third time.
Here's the background:
For the third time after performing a successful HotSync, I have received an error message on the Clie screen that reads as follows:
Fatal Alert
DateDB.c,Line:2537, An
earlier alarm was found in
skipped records
Reset
I then tap the Reset button or press the Reset switch on the back of the NR 70/U, but to no avail.
The first and second time this error message occurred, I just kept tapping the Reset button or pressed the Reset switch on the back over a period of a couple days. Finally the NR70/U reset itself and off I went using it.
This is the third time, but thus far it just Resets itself right back to where we started, like a continuous loop.
So this time I was forced into a hard reset, then Hot Sync, then reset and now I'm into another funky loop of no return.
I should point out that when I'm not trying to Reset the NR70, I have it sitting in the cradle so it doesn't loose its charge.
What do you suggest so I can continue using my Sony Clie? I don't recall having this type of repetitive problem with my former Palm device.

It's funny you asked that. A friend of mine just started worked for their IT department. The IQUE3600 is made by Garmin International. Their website is http://www.garmin.com.

what SamCat said, minus one pixel that only goes out 25% of the time. I love my NR.

I love my NR70V as well. It was a tough decision to sell the T665C but I'm appreciating the NR more now that I don't have the T to play with.
I'm passing on the NX and NZ and will wait to see what the next T-series type looks like. Meanwhile, did I say I love my NR70V?
Kat
PS - michaelgayala - we'd need much more info, like what programs you have installed etc. to attempt to diagnose your problems. I personally would do a hard reset, see if the NR worked well with just the original software, and then reinstall my programs one at a time to see if I could find the culprit.

I love my NR70 ...but....
The best feature is being able to have it open on the table for reading -or- typing in data.
Second feature in virtual Graffiti.

that iQue looks excellent, and If I am not mistaken there is a 320x480 screen...that is a first for a unit of that form factor...
It is a shame however that by the time it comes out (2nd quarter 2003) OS5 will be obsolete...LOL
Here is a chot of the screen and the VG area.

After 8 months with my NR70V, I am still enamored with it! I haven't been as excited about a PDA since I first ordered my Pilot 5000 back in April 1996. I usually change Pilot/Palm units every year but Sony releases models so fast that I always have something new to look forward to.
Of course, if Sony releases a T-series with VG - I'm outta here!

I may have to agree with you there Vidge...I T-style form factor with 320x480, VG, and some other stuff may very well pull me away from the NR....My keyboard gets NO use....and I would love to have the hard buttons on the front of the unit instead of hidden under the screen. (makes game play easier)...even though I rarely play games on my NR...however, the placement of the buttons may be the reason why I dont play more often.

The keyboard is an absolute waste of space on my NR. I think I've used it twice. I use my NR mainly for work and it stays in tablet mode except when I'm carrying it in my purse. (Never tried playing any games that require the buttons)

i agree w/ sdkat2. it sounds like a hardware problem, and perhaps you are re-installing the problem every time you hotsync to restore all your programs and data. if you don't want to take the time to add back programs one at a time and test, you might try not hotsyncing your previous datebook database (but this is just speculation on my part; don't take it too seriously).
what date program are you using?

I may have upgraded to an NX80 a couple of weeks ago, but I still love my NR. In fact, it was that love (hires+, large screen, "remotes," keyboard, self-protecting swivel screen - no case needed...) that informed my decision when it came time to retire my trusty steed. Initially, I was all for the UX, but after careful consideration, I realized that my heart was pulling me closer to home, rather than further away.
After being spoiled rotten over the course of the past (almost) couple of years -- the longest that I've ever exclusively used a PDA -- I realized that there were some compromises that I simply couldn't accept when it came time to upgrade -- a smaller screen and no more "remotes" were definitely two of them. I also prefer portrait-mode in a PDA, though I'm sure that most of the heavy-weight apps will be ported to the UX before long...
The NR was, and is a truly revolutionary PDA -- very much ahead of its time, which wasn't always to its credit. The NX80 is a natural evolution of that device, and one that is in the right place, and at the right time. Now, you can have your NR with dual slots,(Peleca and Mini), WiFi, a usable camera, voice recording, an even better screen, kickass multimedia (mqv, mpeg, Flash), OS5, 31MB of memory (JackFlash), a more solid and refined design with app buttons that you can actually use comfortably for gaming, and a ton of accesories (cases, game controllers, WiFi card, keyboards...). I strongly recommend it to anyone in this forum who is considering upgrading. Lord knows I resisted its siren song, initially writing it off as not enough of an "upgrade." I was wrong. It's the perfect upgrade.
That said, I doubt it will break my NR's record as "longest lived PDA."
-Adam
PS - Rather than relegate my NR to the "shelf," I'm keeping it as my universal remote and eBook reader at my country house. Considering that my HP568, Palm m505, Palm Vx, Psion Series 5, and Newton MP120 are all collecting dust right now, this is a high honor, indeed.
