I really do not have the time to become an expert on downloading all this stuff and I was wondering if anyone has ever taken their clie to a computer company to get it set up with the latest and greatest software. For example, I would like to play mp3s, but I want to pay for someone else to set it up. I have a feeling this is so specialized they won't do it. Your thoughts?

This is very unlikely to happen, and even if it did you'd probably end up going back to them and paying for training on all these apps!!! :p :D
If you want my 2p, I'd say Don't chase the Latest and Greatest just for the sake of it - You'll just end up with a device you won't know what to use for!
Think about the kind of stuff you want to use it for, then put stuff on there based on that. There is no need to download all sorts of stuff at once and install it.
When I got my first T625, all it had was the stock PalmOS apps for a fair while - I started wanting more out of it 'tho and poked around to see if there were apps that did what I wanted. If there were, I installed them.
Now my PDA is chock full of crap :p But if I'd been given one like this from day one I think I would have been alot more confused and a lot more ignorant due to not going through that learning curve...
<Irrational Rant>
This is the why the computer industry and the Internet is so full of crap these days - People don't want to learn, they just want to jump in and loads of companies have sprouted up to pander to that laziness while pushing shoddy goods and charging inflated prices!
</Rant>
If you know the sorts of things you want, you can start a thread on here, something along the lines of "Hey guys (and gals), what's a good xyz app for a TH-X1138?" and then then this crazy lot can give their opinions ;)
Just take it slow and you'll have all the time you need to figure the thing out ;)

Thanks for the reply. I have had my clie for several years and have used it off and on as my calander and address book. I took a few pictures as well. In fact, I was a member of the old cliesource site under a different name which I now can't remember. Could never get the wireless to work on the clie. . . despite reading forum after forum on several sites. I used a wireless laptop and had no problem. I am not a total idiot on the clie but darn near close. I downloaded a couple free programs to try, but just felt the whole thing was exhausting. I work 70 hours a week. I am not lazy, just don't have the time. Aren't there people out there that want to make money on fixing other people's clie's???

You might want to see if there is a local computer club in your area. There might even be a PDA or Palm users group, although these are rare.
Most areas have groups of computer enthusiasts that get together. I'm sure someone there would be happy to help you.
Are there any computer stores in your area? If you go into a smaller shop (i.e., not a chain), there might be fliers from a local club. Or one of the staff might know of a club. In fact, the smaller shops often have employees that really know technology. One of the staff might agree to help you.
If all you have are big computer stores, you might still find someone that knows something. While the big stores often have employees that don't know much about tech, there are some decent employees out there.
Universities and colleges are also a great source. Some schools have student computer clubs. If not, there is bound to be a computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems program that has a few students that know all about this stuff and would be happy to have a little extra cash.
Of course, the suggestion to just ask questions here at 1SRC is a good one. Sometimes, of course, you just need someone to be there.
If nothing else pans out, there are sometimes small companies that specialize in at home support. Geeks on Call is one company that has "offices" in some areas. For example, they might be able to help you with your wireless problem. Often, these companies don't have dedicated PDA people. However, one of their techs might own a Clie...
Personally, I'd LOVE to be able to help people with exactly the stuff you're talking about. I enjoy it and wouldn't mind making a few dollars. Of course, unless you like in the Washington, DC area...
One of the wonderful things about PDAs, specifically PalmOS, is that there are many different ways to customize your PDA based on the way you want to use it. There are usually two or three apps of about equal quality at the top of any category, and which one you use and how you set it up depends entirely on what's important to you and what your style is when accessing that information.
It may be time-consuming to discover all that's out there, but as Cyker said, you don't have to do it all at once. As you get comfortable using your PDA and its various apps, eventually you'll notice some features you wish it had, and then you can research what's out there and find out which apps will give you what you want.

If you lived here in NYC I would take care of you...for a nominal fee of course. ;)

FunkyAtty, maybe if you tell us your general location, someone here might be able to help if they live near you.

Buy your busy secretary a PDA ~ he/she can do yours while learning about theirs. Or are you married? Buy one for your significant other? It's easy to learn to operate one, quite useful and will make your employee more productive. Whoever you gift with one will be so grateful, they'll be THRILLED to help you load yours up with goodies! ;)

hmmm seems like there is quite a market niche for PDA support.
Have to do some thinking about that :)
Would be nice work if you can get enough of it.

I live in St. Louis, Missouri.... home of the Arch and the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals!!!! (CARDINALS V. YANKEES...World Series. . . IT'S GONNA HAPPEN THIS YEAR!!!!. . .as long as we can sneak by Houston who is almost as awesome as the Cards). People around here have World Series fever and are too busy to work on electronics. We need Chicago Cubs fans, who aren't busy cheering on their team since they lost AGAIN, to come down and sub for all of us Cards fans.
Seriously though, if anyone who considers themselves a Clie expert lives in the Midwest let me know. . .and yes. . .there is more than cows and corn in Missouri. Hey Winexprt(obviously a Yankees fan)...you would help a Cardinals fan?

Yellow Rose, My secretary thinks your the best. Unfortunately, she is scared of change. She is still using Windows 98 and Wordperfect 8!!!!! Despite the fact I think she is the best secretary ever....she would explode my clie by the end of the day. And our computer guys at work are just about as pathetic. You know the kind...I think they fake their way through and only one guy at the company knows what he is doing. They don't even have PDA's....I already asked. What kinda techie doesn't have a CLIE....that's just wrong!!

Hey Bro! OF COURSE I would help you (even though you're a dirty Cards fan! LOL ) :p
Actually, I'm in St. Loo twice a year. My aunt & uncle and all the kiddies moved out there several years ago and since we're a super close family we go out to see them in summer & around x-mas...SO...maybe we could meet up then and I could take care of your Clie. Was just kidding about the fee part. I'd do it for nothing. :) They live in Ladue...right next to Uni City. BTW...I really love St. Louis...the Arch is just about the coolest thing in the world. :D
