View Full Version : Outlook network sync

I currently use Palm Desktop with my Sony Clie SJ30.
I work from home, dialling into the Office network as required, usually for a few hours every afternoon/evening, to collect mail using Outlook.
I have tried Outlook, and it synchs ok, but I havent switched as I'm concerned about not having control of my backup data - it would be stored on the office server. I wouldn't trust the head Office techies not to delete my directory, during one of their cleanups!
I really miss the functionality of Outlook - it really is streets ahead of the palm app.. and would be interested to hear how anyone else has solved this problem.

This sounds like a generic Outlook question rather than a PDA question, but I'm game.

You can configure "offline folders" in Outlook so that copies of any (or all) your folders (Mail, Calendar, Tasks, Notes, etc) live on your PC. They even "synchronize" with the server when you logoff. So, in essence, you're providing your own backup. I would warn you that I was not able to sync with Outlook offline folders with Intellisync, and had to revert to the Pocket Mirror I had from my previous Palm device. (It works just fine, BTW.)

I hope your pessimism about your tech guys isn't warranted. That would make 'puter life awful.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Dave, - I'll do some research into that over the weekend.
