Blue Nomad has just released their new version 3.0 of BackupBuddyVFS Pro and personal. Check it out at: http://www.bluenomad.com/products.html .
Version 3.0:
Compression of backup files saves space on your expansion cards
Checkpoints allow you to keep multiple backup sets on your expansion cards
OS 5 support and ARMlet allow for maximum speed
Multiple device/users are able to backup to the same expansion card (Note: provided their HotSync IDs are distinct)
Fix for filenames with capitalization differences only
Changed names from BackupBuddyVFS:Lite to BackupBuddyVFS Personal
Changed names from BackupBuddyVFS to BackupBuddyVFS Professional
BackupBuddyVFS Professional now uses registration keys based on your HotSync user name to validate licenses

I'm not sure, but checking the prc file it designates version 3.0b12. This may be a Beta release. I emailed Blue Nomad to find out.

I haven't heard anything, so I just emailed BlueNomad for the upgrade. Thanks for the heads up!

Well, by the email I just received from BlueNomad, it looks like I'll end up paying the upgrade price. But...I just took the trial version for a spin. My old encrypted backup came it at around 55 MB on the card, but the new version with max compression comes in at under 29 MB for the same set! Plus, it didn't seem all that slow on my T3 with max compression. Other backup programs claiming compression didn't even come close to this performance. This one is worth the upgrade for me.
This version is great! Now this app really beats BackupMan

Just in case you didn't know, registered users are given a 50% discount coupon code to upgrade to BBVFS Pro 3.0. So don't pay full price for it. Write to Blue Nomads, if you didn't get your 50% coupon code for the upgrade. I am not allowed to post the code here. Sorry! ;)
Just realised that registered users who bought this app after 4.1.04 will be getting a free upgrade. They will send a FREE upgrade key via email within couple of days. So I'm getting a free upgrade after all. Hurray! :D

Thanks for the heads up. I receive the email with the coupon last night after I sent in my query. I've used BBVFS for several years, so I guess I'm not eligible for the free upgrade. I'm going to wait a few days and see what happens anyway.
Hmmm...just came back to this thread to see if it is worth the $10.:)

FYI. It appears the version Blue Nomad originally had on their website was a beta version. They updated to the new release version as of last night around 11pm PST.

Boo! Hiss! This upgrade isn't worth $10! I think that asking even $7 is a little too much.
I'll wait for the 14 day demo to expire before I make up my mind about buying the upgrade

Actually, the amount of card space saved with this update seems worth the $10 to me. I'm a bit concerned that the link provided in my email points to a deadend on most of my attempts and never gets me to the purchase page to enter the discount code. Will this code work anywhere else?

Yeah, I'm kinda confuded where you put the discount code. I tried it on PalmGear but it dosen't work

Did you go through the order process from the Blue Nomad store? Once you get to the payment tab, there's a place to input discount codes. I haven't received my code yet, so I can't verify if it works or not.

I just upgraded. The code worked at the BlueNomad online store as Mike related. I received my registration file almost immediately.
Cutting my backup from 55 MB to 29 MB was well worth $10. I like the archive feature as well, but don't plan on using the checkpoints.

I've not received my free key thru the email yet. Unless the junk mail filter beat me to it. :( Well, I wrote to them abt it already and will see.
Those of you who wish to upgrade (but bought this app before 4.1.04) should use the 50% discount coupon cuz that will cut it to ~$10. Getting 20% off from PalmGear is probably only good for those who have not registered their BBVFS Pro. ;)
Tanker_Bob, pls give us a review of the upgraded version. Thanks! :p

fssia,
A full tanker_bob style review would be nice but just seeing what he gained in backup compression made me spring for the upgrade. I finally got thru and snagged my 50% discount. :)

Still waiting for my free upgrade key.
Yup, the backup compression is probably the most attractive feature of all!

Tanker_Bob, pls give us a review of the upgraded version. Thanks! :p
Thank you for your confidence! :D
I'll have to check with my editor. It would probably take a couple of weeks to appear after I submitted it, so wouldn't help in the next 14 days. ;)
I'll give you the short version. Tanker Bob loves this upgrade. As I said above, the compression feature alone is worth the upgrade. On my T3, I didn't notice any degradation in performance using the compression, so it must be optimized for ARM processors. I enabled the archiving last night, so I'll let you know how that goes later.

Hmmm. The message I received with the download link also had the registration key attached. Maybe your virus checker stripped the file? You should reply to that email from the upgrade shop and ask about the file.

No, I have been receving emails with attachments with no problem, so I don't think it's the antivirus messing with my mails.
This is what I got from them:
Thanks for your message. BackupBuddyVFS Professional now uses registration keys. We have resent your registration key file attached to a separate message.
