What program(s?) can I use to e-mail someone an open-able word document from my pda (e-mailing OUT as a readable attached word file)?

Or is a better solution available through bluetooth? (when sending FROM pda)

I would like to edit the document on my handheld & send the finished piece from my pda, but not that many people have pda doc <-> MS Word doc converters (already installed on their computers) so I'd like to send something they could open natively (?is that the right word?) ~ and to do this would I need Versamail?

um, anyone have any advice or experience (good or bad) on this?

What application do you use to edit/create MS Word documents? There are quite a few applications that allow the user to create and edit Microsoft documents in their native format. In other words, you don't need to convert your documents into .doc files. That way you can just fire off e-mails with MS documents attached to them.

I do believe that Versamail supports document attachments as well as images. Inbox to Go supports documents for sure (I'd know because I use it). I'm not sure about Clie Mail, as I've never tried attaching files with that, but I'll try it out and tell you guys sometime tomorrow.

Anyways, if you like working with native MS files (you were right by calling them 'native' by the way), i suggest getting an application that supports them. that way you don't have to worry about converting files.

It sounds like Docs to Go (http://www.dataviz.com/products/documentstogo/) is what you will need (to edit on PDA before sending).
There is a free trial so give it a shot.

(I actually prefer wordsmith but doesnt do the native thing)

Hey there daver and edlin, thanks for the encouraging reply!

about compatibility with existing office suite~ well, I'm willing to plunk down the money for a new pda office suite if it can send attachments openable in Microsoft Word on a non-pda-user's computer.
As for Clie Mail, the manual I have (for Clie TJ37) says that you can attach STILL IMAGE FILES (pictures taken with Clie camera or other images stored on Clie Viewer) but no mention of Microsoft Office compatible documents so i am a little skeptical about Clie Mail being able to send such docs. (although Clie Mail will let you save such image attachments on memory stick--according to the manual)

I remember reading a complaint someone posted on Palmgear-- saying that the competitor (Iambic's Quickoffice) will send Word files that are readable (as html files) but NOT formatted! (so the "native" thing meant only the text would be preserved I guess?) But I have no idea if that complaint-poster had fiddled with the program a lot or got frustrated right away... you know what I mean? Or what Dataviz means when they say "native"? So, I'd like to find out the "Does It Work OK" thing and the "What do people really use for this type of thing?" thing first.

I guess I should ask about your system (Docs To Go) . Um, so you are using Dataviz's Inbox To Go with Word to Go?
From the Dataviz website, it sounded as though you could receive :) unconverted docs on your pda & your pda will figure out how to convert it, but it didn't mention (unless I missed it) if word documents you SEND out from pda will be readable on any ole computer.

I've been using Docs to Go for quite a while now, and have had no troubles with it at all. It supports native document formats. By native, they mean *.doc, *.ppt, and *.xls files...As in, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in their original format without ANY conversion. So you can copy MS files directly to a folder on your expansion card and be able to edit them right away. Docs to Go also allows you to CREATE native Word and Excel files. (native PowerPoint file support is only for viewing. editing/creating isn't supported yet). So, with Inbox to Go, i can send and receive MS files from my friends through e-mail, and work on them right away without converting the files.

If this is what you meant by sending/receiving MS document files in their native formats, then I believe Docs to Go is the office suite for you. I do believe that Mobile Office (from Mobisystems, i think) has native file support as well. However, you'll have to check with them on this. HOpe this helps!

P.S. I tried out Clie Mail, and nausicaa is right, it only supports image attachments, nothing else.
