Well my 45 day old refirbished NX80 from Sony started exhibiting a problem tonight. When I rotate the screen I get lines scattered all over the screen. As long as the display is in one of the two positions at the end of the rotation it is ok. Any other angle it has lines running all through the display and the display is unreadable.
I checked the sonystyle web site and they said refirbs are waranteed for 90 days but the green paper inside the box said it must be returned within 30 days.
Any help out there would be appreciated.
Has anyone else seen this same type of display problem? If so does it get worse over time?
Has anyone returned a refirb unit to Sony? What was your expreience?
Thanks,
John

On my new (not refurb) NX80, it came with a 30 day warranty, which they "extended" for the full year when I registered my unit at Sony. I assume it works similarly with the refurbs. Sorry I can't help with the technical issue, but I would definitely have Sony fix it or replace it if you can.

I've been having that the last few months with my Nx80v. I can manage it but it is still annoying.

I contacted Sony and they had me fax them my packing slip so I could prove the august date. That established my unit is still within the 90 day warantee period. I was then able to contact the repair center and they are sending a box for repair. I wanted to get this going ASAP since the warantee is so short on the refirb. Meanwhile I switched back to the NX70 and will only miss the battery life of the NX80 while it is in repair.
The first thing I noticed going back to the NX70 is how easy it is to use the keyboard and of course I have a non-colapseable stylus!
Does anybody know how the screen connects to the body at the swivel point? Is is wires or is there some type of slide connection or perhaps an optical connnection?
Thanks,
John

Everything connects with wires. I had the same thing happen to my refurb NX73 and sent it in for repair. Rather than repair my unit, they sent me another Refurb. It came as my original NX73 did with all the software and accessories in another refurb box. So I would recommend only returning the unit and keeping the cradle and all other accessories. They probably will decide to do the same with yours and then you'll have an extra cradle, power supply and earphones. Oh yeah, stylus too. I didn't have any problems with the transaction and it was a fairly quick turnaround. :)

Evertt, Thanks for the suggestion. They are sending a box that only takes the NX80 and told me to leave the rest at home. I'll have to remember to keep the stylus whether they fix mine or send another unit.
I guess if the screen is connected with only wires one of the wires or connections must be going bad. I've had my NX70 for almost 2 years and it has held up well (only the P key is giving me problems) and I wonder how this nearly new 80 developed this problem so quickly.
I wouldn't mind another refirb if it looks as good as this one did when I took it out of the box. Since I already have an NX70 I have two cradles, and duplicate accessories. I actually have three audio remotes because I exchanged my NR70 with Best Buy and forgot to bring in the audio remote. So I'm well equipped for NX series. I was so disappointed when the 80 went bad. Hope Sony comes through...
