Interesting thing I noticed.....

I have a Tungsten E and i was hotsyncing quite a few different things to try on it. So I had the USB2 hotsync cable hooked up to it and the PC for a good amount of time. I noticed that its charging the battery through it. I didn't think it could do that since it has a AC adapter that plugs into the palm in a different way.

Kind of cool to know I can do this.

My Axim will charge off of usb if I turn it off.

USB has 5VDC power. That is normal.

I see a lot of 2-in-1 travel hotsync & charger in ebay, taking the advantage of this situation.

It won't charge as fast as the actual charger (my TH55 requires 5.2VDC), but it will charge the TH55 since it only needs to have 4.3VDC to be fully charged. So USB port has 0.7 VDC drop to over come the PDA internal charging resistance.
