Hey Everyone. And Kudos to a Consistantly excellent one stop site.
My problem is that i don't have home access to the internet. i use internet "cafes" to keep abreast of whats going on. This is fine, but the only method i have of downloading software is via Floppy disc @ the present time. I download the Zip files & unzip them at home and it works fine.
My problem is that some files are just too large for a floppies 1.44mb capicity & the internet shop will not let me download them to their desktop & unzip them to view the readme and then just put the .prc or .pdb on the floppy. These Palm files are usually smaller & able to fit.
Is there any site that just has just these files or could anyone e-mail me them seperately, eg. .pdb or .prc file only, with 'readme' and instructions seperately? In many cases the zip file contains grayscale, hi res & low res colour etc. All I require is the HiRes (if applicable) Palm File. Is there any other solution? i have looked into getting one of those portable usb plug in 32mb drives which seem ideal but unfortunatly are pretty expensive here in Dublin Ireland at present. if any one has any ideas i would be very grateful. the programs that i could really use are:

•appforge booster v2.0 (to Run Programs like Piano Scales Etc)
•CASL runtime Prcs
•metrO 4.3.4
•billards demo ( im dying to try it out but its just over the 1.4 capacity & can't download.
•Fire Viewer demo

i use a Clie NR70v. i would be very grateful for any help advice and thank you in advance!

PS Any other Irish Clie users around?

I assume, CD-R or RW disks are not an option. You could possibly use a USB MS reader and a spare MS, or contact the developer of the software that interests you and request they email you the necessary .prc and .pdb files to use their software (this would also be a great test of their customer service, if it is software you are considering buying).

The USB MS Reader sounds very Cool as I do have a Spare MS. Hope it won't break the bank. I'll have to check it out. I must e-mail some of these Guys and see how swift the Response is :) Keep ya posted. Thanks Q

Why can't you use your Clie as the MS card reader? I do it all the time using HotSync-USB adapter to connect the PC to the Clie. If the PC uses XP, you don't need to load the MS driver. Other than that, just bring your installation CD-ROM and load MSExport to the PC, then uninstall it after you finish with it.

A MS reader in the US only costs about $30.  I'm not sure how much difference the price will be in Ireland.

I can e-mail the prc files to you.  Just post your e-mail address.

They also make MS floppy disk adapters . . . that might even be a better option than the usb thingummy . . .

Yeah, but these options require drivers to be installed on the PC in question. And its been my experinece that internet cafes are pretty well locked down.

Hey again all & thank you very much for above suggestions. Using the Clie itself as a Card reader is brilliant except the Internet Cafe will not allow installation of any additional Software. As rob pointed out “lock down” Central. Thanks Grifter for offering to send .prc files. I’m OK for the moment as I coerced a workmate to download them onto his cd-r. As for the price of ms readers here, anything MS specific is ridiculous in price here & as yellow rose mentioned the floppy disc converter/reader is the most expensive @ €109! Its cheaper to buy a multi reader, I have a sitecom one & its excellent but needs software to work so I can't bring it to a cafe. Bottom line folks is I have to shop around for another net cafe that may be more liberal on the download front & wait for the Sales on MS hardware! :-) Cheers. Q

PS: Sebring, I e-mailed the Guys @ fireviewer-still waiting.…
