Hi all. I have an NX80V, (which makes me very happy). My old Clie, the ancient S-300, has been sitting dormant, but my wife would now like to use it (for it's address book and to do list mainly). I have only installed the clie software from the NX80V on my new computer. I would like to be able to hotsync both Clies on the same computer, but I can't get it to work. Any ideas how?

Some time ago, Larry Winward posted this solution about a similar question, which looks like it would work. The problem is, I can't get Winzip or Extract.exe to work, and I can't find Microsoft Cab Viewer. Any ideas where to find it, or other ways to make the 2 clies work on the same computer? Thanks in advance!

(Quoting Larry W)
"For the Sony (US versions) there are known issues.

The problem is that the driver was NOT installed by the Sony Clie install program. The driver (CLHSXXXX.inf) (The "XXXX" depends on the model Clie you want to install)is located on the Sony Clie CD in the Data1.cab file. You must manually install this driver as windows cannot do it for you and the Sony program fails to do so frequently.

1. get a program that can read a cab files (WinZip 8 or higher, Microsoft Cab Viewer, Microsoft extract.exe, etc)

2. Insert the CD into your drive

3. right-click on that CD drive's icon in 'My Computer' to bring up a context sensitive-menu. From this menu select 'Open' or 'Explore from Here' (if that extension is installed)

4. Browse to the PC folder. The Data1.cab is located in the 'Palm Desktop for CLIE' sub-folder. This has all the files that Sony's tools should have installed, but didn't

5. Use the tool from step (1) to open the cab file. Extract all its contents to a directory on your harddrive (e.g. C:\Temp\CLIE)

Now you must force Microsoft Windows to install the driver you just put on your hard drive.

1. Place your handheld in the cradle and push the hot sync button to bring up the defective 'New hardware found' screen that has been giving you fits.

2. Click next at the window that asks you to install new hardware. You should now be prompted to either look yourself or let windows find your driver for you.

3. Select the option let windows search for you. In the next window, make sure you select 'let me select another location'

4. When the Microsoft Install tool fails to find any driver, it will prompt you for a location. Give it the path to the driver you put on your hard drive (e.g. browse to C:\temp\CLIE).

5. Be prepared to give your handheld's password if you configured it.

Some problems may still remain, but the Clie should now be at least visible to your PC.
