As per the above subject, I'm wondering how to do the conversion. Please advice! :)

to .MID ? (midi formatted music notation)

It can be done, but the results will vary depending on the source material.

(one of several programs available - search for "WAV to MIDI")

Convert from WMA to WAV first. Easy if the WMA is not protected content.

NOTE: this is not what I would call a 'conversion' but an interpretation -- a guess at the musical notes based on signal analysis of the music. Works best with music track with a single voice.

Isn't wma already in wav format?

Anyway, thanks for the info. I just remember I could do a "wav to midi" search after I post this thread. Sorry folks! Is there any freeware for this kind of "interpretation"? Just wondering.

wma is the microsofts way of compressing music an restricting it. It's like mp3 with 50% smaller files and it has drm (digital rights management) built in. Sony has a similar thing with ATRAC3. Wav files are uncompressed audiofiles, so they are not the same.

Oic. How do I convert wma to wav then? And how do I check if the files I have is in wma or wav format?
