Release Notes for 5.2 build 46 (released 3/11/03)

* Palm OS 5 high resolution mode is now supported (NOTE: For a brief time the formatting of the on-device AvantGo homepage will not use all of the available screen area, but we expect to have this issue fixed on our servers soon)
* Navigation using the Palm 5-way navigator button and the Sony Jog Dial has been changed based on user suggestions to facilitate one-handed operation
* Some performance improvements have been made for launching the application when content has been synced to a to memory card.
* Fixes to numerous minor bugs

Yah, don't underestimate this. Until they get it figured out, on-device AvantGo is pretty much useless!

Be careful!

I installed the new version on my NX. The websites became unreadable. I had to uninstall the new and re-install the previous beta version.

Any suggestions?

did the same, didn't work. then i deleted the beta first on the palm and installed the new version. now it works. smaller fonts but the rest looks quite good...... still.. no new icon, still the beta icon on it...... well, **** product but as i wrote before in another thread, it's more then enough for me and 2mb for free are just wonderful.

I didn't have to reinstall to get the small font to work, I just cleaned out the cache on the Clie and then synced again. Dunno if that will work for everyone

Installed the new beta. It really needs to have the work BETA in far bigger letters.

1) First install left the text unreadable, overlapping
2) Doesn't use all the screen space
3) Still full of low-res images
4) Doesn't support a virtual silk screen
5) Some pages, such a beta news still overlap

Looking forward to build 47. Maybe that will be some use.

Gone back to old build....

Just a short question. How can I tell Avantgo to sync to a MS?

I use LauncherX and it seems to automatically recognise it's on the MS ... without even having to set-up an LauncherX short cut.
Would guess that most 3rd party Launchers have some way of letting the hotsync know it's on a MS.
Beleive that PowerRun has the ability too.

No, what I meant was.... how can I sync avantgo's channels directly to MS?

You cant do that directly.
You can store AvantGo app on the MS BUT the databases (channels etc) will stay in RAM.

You can however use "Advantage" ... an app that allows both everything to be stored on the MS. However, when you launch Advantage (AvantGo) it loads everything to RAM, so you must have enough space in RAM to cope with AvantGo app and databases.

You CAN sync avantgo channels to the MS.

Goto "Server Preferences"
"Settings..."
and check the box that says "Use Card".

You have to have a stick inserted for this option to be available, and ensure the card has a name

Be aware this is rather slow, as the pages are saved and pulled from the MS.

Here to help.

But it is SLOW, it's not as S L O W as build 26 but it's still not as good as memory.

If you have under 2MB I'd use the internal memory and push programs onto the stick.

The Avantgo Beta 5.2 build 46 is much better than the previous builds.
I did have to select the "Select All Content" server option, and then re-sync, to get this version to work properly.
Loading the docs from the Memory Stick is much, much faster. It is just as fast as Handstory in loading the data from the Memory Stick.
I have about 1500K worth of channel data, which I sync to the Memory Stick, and it loads it into the Avantgo app in less than 20 seconds. It does take longer than syncing directly into RAM but it is acceptable now. I keep just the app in RAM.
The HiRes support is nice, pictures look great, but the font is a bit small. It would be nice if you could select the font size.
I like the way the jog dial support now works.
Full screen, 320 x 480, is not yet supported.
All in all this version of Avantgo is very good. :)
