My lovely 9 month old recently poured half a can of Pepsi on my T665c. The software flacked out for a while and I could not get some data to hotsync. A reinstall of software seemed to correct that problem.

However, I can no longer initiate a hotsync by pushing the button on the cradle. I have to initiate it from the clie to sync. I also notice that my keyboard will no longer work. I deduce from this that there is some problem with commands or data communication from a peripheral device through the port on the bottom of the clie.

I don't know if there is some pepsi on the port that may be causing the problem (how the heck could I get in there to clean it off if there was)

Any ideas on what might be causing the problem, and how I can fix it? I'm going nuts not being able to use my keyboard.

These are brainstorming ideas, not 'I've tried it and it works' help, but...

If the contacts are indeed dirty, you can obtain contact cleaner spray at Radio Shack or other electronics stores. They can often help you determine exactly what kind of cleaner to try for your application.

Generally, a small bottle of denatured alcohol and some long swabs will do the trick, but trying to get into the tiny openings will be the problem.

If a pop (coffee, lemonade, etc.) spill is bad enough, you are sometimes better off immediately washing it off thoroughly with clean water, then letting it dry out completely before turning it on. Gentle warming helps a lot. Don't turn the unit on until totally dry. Sometimes this helps even after the pop has dried.

oof, i don't know about water - even when the pda is off there are still electronic parts that are functional; timer would be one of those things. so if coke, as viscous as it is, never reached those parts, water will finish the business.
i'm pretty straight-minded to all electronic devices getting stuff spilled over them. get armed with a screw driver, q-tips, and rubbing alcohol. work your way through every single part that you can reach on the inside that's got coke/other crap over it. i never had to do this to my pda, but this worked quite well for several remote controls and a cell phone.
if you decide, there's a high chance this will help you, however it WILL void any warranty.
hope this gives you some ideas.

those are some good suggestions. I think I will take a stab at the contacts first, see if I can get something in there to clean them off. Anyone have an idea of what can be used to clean up in that tiny space?

if you have a replacement plan somewhere, my suggestion:

clean off all outside residue and from inside the connector, make sure it isn't sticky anywhere. take it into Best Buy or wherever and tell them it just stopped working
