Hello all,
A recent situation prompted me to start this thread regarding our beloved (?) memory sticks that we have in our NX's.
One day whilst i was in the back seat of a friends car my memory stick decided that it wanted to learn to fly. It literally flew from the back seat into the drivers seat lap. The driver received a shock and not realizing what it was, promtly began to flick the foreign object away. This nearly ended up tradegy, whereby the vehicle now thought it was a pedestrian and nearly 'walked' on the footpath.
I dont really know how it happened. Well actually i know how it happened. I must have somehow knocked the stick whilst in the NX and came out with such a force. I was sort of playing with the unit and somehow must have ejected the unit.
I can laugh about it now but at the time it wasnt so funny.
Anyone had a similar problem with their sticks also wanting to fly?
Dont beleive that your stick wants to learn how to fly? Try this simple experiment. Whilst the stick is in the NX take your finger and 'eject' it by pushing the stick in only from a small section of the top. Now quickly let it go. Watch what happens.
With a bit of practise your stick too can fly like a bird, leap tall building in a single bound.......
Ahh......such is life. Small things amuse small minds......
Who cares....im a male after all......
How far has yours flown? I mean seriously !

Mine did that a couple times in my NR. I can't remember if it has happened in my NX yet. I was sitting in my car and it just flew out of the top of my NR without any bump or anything. It landed in my cup holder on my dash. I think the little latch that holds the stick in just let lose for some reason. I think this is a great way to loose a stick. :/

Happened to me too, the thing just flew right over my desk and onto my co-workers lap about 2 meters away.

Mine only flies about 12 inches, the first time I tried it it learned how to crawl, took me a few minuts of searching to figure out it flew away from me only to crawl back under my chair.
It "flies" lowly half an inch, if you really force it... :o

memory stick that is, it tries to fly but then it gets stuck. I guess it is too fat for liftoff

Sounds like it's today's modern version of tiddlywinks!
We must have a lot of bored people in Cliesource:). No wonder there was a thread asking about how many memory sticks we had. Does the NZ90 cradle provide a better trajectory:D?

depending on what angle you hold your clie your stick can go from a couple of inches to a few feet.
ive had a few friends of mine competing against me.
i think ive started the memory stick olympics !
you reckon we should also start a drug enforcement agency for potential stick cheats?

originally it was an accident. i couldnt figure out how it happened.
then i tried to recreate it with success. sitting at my desk with the front of it facing my PC monitor. it flew out again hitting the monitor.
ive examined the stick slock more closely and ive discovered that the stick doesnt actually sit flush with the unit. theres about 2mm clearance. ive noticed tha on my friends unit it sits the same as mine. this obviously would lead to the stick ejecting itself more often than one that sits flush.

My memory stick jumped out, once. My NX was in its cradle, and I was writing a note, and suddenly ... LAUNCH!
I must have bumped it earlier and friction finally gave out. It was very odd!

Has anybody experienced a 'loose' memory stick slot on the NX70?
The memory stick slot on my N710 became loose for some reason (probably due to me ejecting and swapping memory sticks too often). I needed to cover the slot with tape to ensure it does not eject itself!
Just wondering if this was an isolated problem or if this happens to anybody else.

Hint: To get the longest range carefully place air your device at approximately 45 degrees. This will guarantee maximum range.

mine gets stuck so does that mean it can be in the special olympics or can it be in the normal ones?
lisabeth

i think you qualify for the specials, sstrasser! ;)
My one isn't quite sporty. It just jumps with a click, but gets stuck after a few inches. I know better than this.
Worst of all it always waits for the green light(I have a blink Lexar stick).
Maybe I need a new one??
Which brands is the best to fly?

the memory stick self ejecting is actually a very common problem, memory sticks are very light, fortuantly there is a very simple way to remedy this, simple load a couple of large movie files on it to weight it down, it will just want to lay in the slot all day, on the negative side you wil hear it grunt and moan any time you ask it to load a file for you, so pick your poison

An aquaintence that works in Sony USAs marketing dept. told me that the "autoejection problem" is actually not a problem but a small rom based app that randomly chooses when to release the memory stick. It is part of Sony's plan to sell more memory sticks. The Pro memorysticks eject with higher frequency because Sony would like to boost sales in this product line.
DAMN SONY!!!!!!

WOW! Your spring must be really BIG to have it fly that far! I tried mine and it only went about a foot. I guess I just have an average spring. :(
I was playing Bejeweled at a resturant and it shot out and hit my daughter in the forehead. Was quite surprising..... definately won't be purchasing a $600 1 gb stick... for fear it would escape without notice..

Now, I am reminded why I backup all my MS's onto my PC!
What's worse then having to pay for a new one is to permanently lose all the info on it!!!!!
