I'm happy with my UX here in university as it is pretty much the ultimate all in one machine. However, I'm still having trouble getting the most of multimedia functions from it. Im using it as an mp3 player and i managed to put some videoclips, but it somehow feels like on the limit of the machine. So, I've been looking around for a 'multimedia only' device, and I found this new machine called the PSP(PlayStation Portable) a few weeks ago. It's not due out until spring with a price tag of roughly around TH55 / UX50's, but so far I'm keeping my eyes fixed on it. I also looked at the DS, but many of it's features feel "been there done that" from my UX. :p Infact they even look similar which worries me a little.

I was wondering if you guys think if there would be some compatibility between the PSP and the UX as they both come from the same company, use wifi and MS (Duo for the PSP). If somehow I can remotely control either devices or be able to transfer data, then I'm planning to get the PSP. People fear PSP will get PS2's games, but I dont have a PS2 so that's fine for me. Infact, i'm a massive fan of Gran Turismo. If I get a PSP it will most definitely stay home, so I dont need a clamshell design like the DS or UX. Infact, I was hoping it'll be abit bigger than it's size. :o

To me it sounds like Sony is starting off from where they left off of Clie while Nintendo is building on it's GBA with some PDA functions. This PSP thing feels alot like when the original PS came out when Nintendo was reigning. Like I was back then, I cant foresee which side will win. So if there are game experts out there with a PDA, give me some opinions! :D

Knowing Sony, I doubt there will be any compatibility.

I read somewhere there will be a MemoryStick adapter that will let the UX-40 and -50 play PSP minidisks. It's supposed to ship 2005/04/01.

I also highly doubt. They are indeed the same company, but completely different branches. Likewise, the Sony Clie line and the Sony Ericson smartphones seems completely different. PSP will not offer your everyday PDA functions, it's 90% aimed at video gaming. Don't expect to get any effective organizing/calendar keeping ability on it. I've been eyeing it for quite sometime now.

I see. I was guessing if the PSP's hardware is atleast someway related to Sony's Clie line since it's the closest thing they have as opposed to the Nintendo starting off from the GBA. I was kind of surprised to see Nintendo getting away with adverising some paltry PDA funtions as an "innovation". I dont see how you are going to play a first person shooter with a stylus for instance.

What kind of compatiblity are you exactly looking forward?

i heard that there will be a remote control for the PSP, so I thought it'll be cool to control it remotely through my UX. Better yet, it'll be awesome if i could exhange music, pictures, or saved games in my UX.
