So as I understand it,LauncherX is able to launch applications directly from the card. And once I've created a shortcut using launcherX, the shortcut will work even if I delete LauncherX.
So since I already have LauncherX, can I use the LauncherX shortcuts in routing my ZLauncher, my launcher of choice? Would this allow ZLauncher to use the apps directly from the card or is something that ZLauncher already does?

Zlauncher does it. Any app in the Palm/Launcher folder on your memstick should show up as an icon in Zlauncher and you can put it in whatever category you want. If it doesn't show up, do a refresh.
If you have an app COPIED to the Palm/Launcher folder, you'll wind up with two icons in zlauncher, one for the ram version and one with the little memstick flag on it indicating it's on the card.

Also, if you tap and hold on an icon of a program on the memory stick, there is a shortcut option. this will put a shortcut to the program in your unfiled category, and you can file it anywhere you want.

I was able to use Launcher X shortcuts in ZLauncher, but it's been a while and it seems I encountered some undesirable behavior. It may have just been duplicate icons, but I quit trying to use them in ZLauncher. It may have been that the app wasn't properly deleted, on closing, after calling it with the shortcut.
ZLauncher does have shortcuts, but they don't have the same functionality as Launcher X/Launcher III shortcuts. See Launchplug.com for discussion. Basically, Launcher X shortcuts support hotsyncing for some apps that otherwise have to be in RAM.

I use LIII shortcuts for a few apps I have in the /Launcher folder on the card - I've not had a problem with them at all.
The other apps that need to sync are on the card with PiDirect or in RAM.
