You can't improve it. Just make sure you have a lot of light.

This is one feature of the NZ, and Clie's in particular that I always wanted to see improved.
There was an application for the NR series Clies running OS 4, that improved the quality of the video resolution from the 112x160 (like our NZ's) to 240x320 size resolution. It also included many controls so you could adjust lighting levels, and even apply various filters to your movie like "solarize" (which inverted the colors). Problem is, it only works for OS4 Clie's w/ cameras (the NR series).
There are so many digital cameras now (even cheap ..under $75 ones) that include 240x320 video, that I really thought we'd see this improved in future Clies. It never happened? I guess the Sony research/marketing/sales people figured we didn't care about the video???
I personally think the 2 megapixel camera works great, and if it had 240x320 at minimum video resolution, i probably woulndn't have bought a digital camera.... I purchased a sony "DSC-V1" which takes 640x480 video @30 fps, very high quality! anyway, i am getting off topic!
Maybe a future japanese model Clie will have higher quality video???

I think you answered your question in your own post: if Sony improved the video capturing capabilities of clies to rival the digital camcorders they themselves sell, they would be decreasing their own sales and profits.

Actually the Video Capture capabillities of the NZ90 are quite good.
With two exceptions. The electronics is somewhat slow to adapt to changing light conditions.
So you have to give it some extra lead time before pushing "record".
The low rez is something that is set in stone for motion pics (still pics are of excellent quality as soon as the electronics had time to kick in).
I'm not yet convinced that its the firmware limiting this, maybe if someone could provide a patched video recorder software?

It would be very possible to improve the video recording quality on the NZ if Sony realese the SDK's for this.
They were released for the OS4, NR series clie, and a 3rd party developer did release a program that allowed for improved 240x320 recording, etc... (The NR series had a 66mhz processor, the NZ has a 200mhz). So hardware isn't really an issue.
I personally believe Sony only gave us the 116x120 resolution video so as to keep file size small for our recorded video's.
