I have different kinds of music (Jimmy Buffet, classical, etc) that I want to play in the NX80V. However, I don't want to lump them all together, rather be able to choose if I want to listen to rock, or classical, etc.

Is there any way to categorize the music (all on one memory stick) into different folders and be able to choose what kind of music I want to listen to? I tried the "folders" option, but the MP3 dosen't seem to recognize them. Did I do something incorrect there?

Thanks,
Steve

There are lots of post on this topic throught the forums. I assume your using the built in mp3 Player. Best way would be to rename the file in the order you want them played. With a prog like Pocket Tunes you could place the mp3's in individual folders, grouping them any way you'd like.

Thanks,

And, yes, it was for the built-in MP3 player. I would install another player, but really don't want space taken up by two programs. Could I uninstall the original MP3 without a lot of difficulty?

Seems like whenever I install a new program, the hacks mess up the other programs I already have, so I'm a bit cautious. Do you have an address for pocket tunes and directions to uninstall the original MP3?

Thanks,
Steve

I have never been able to successfully run Pocket Tunes on my NX80. It requires 5.2 and is not listed in the supported devices:

"Required:
PalmOS 5.2 or later (or Tungsten T).
PalmOne Zire 31, 71, 72, Tungsten T, Tungsten T2, Tungsten T3, Tungsten C, Tungsten E, Garmin iQue 3600, Sony UX40, UX50, TJ35, TJ37, TH55, Tapwave Zodiac, or Treo 600 device."

I use AlbumSwap from CliePet (just do a search on this forum and you'll find lots of info). This allows you to place albums or assorted tracks into individual folders and swap between them, then you just use the built-in AudioPlayer to play them. Works great!

I tried the pocket tunes and it required a beta version band-aid to make it run on the OS5. ItT worked, but was very unstable and crashed upon closing the program. Other problems were showing up and I uninstalled it completely.

Thanks for the head's up on this.

Try Pocket Tunes with the new 2.03 beta from AiboHack (http://www.aibohack.com/clie/modclieaud.htm). Works great as a Preference Panel with my NX70V and a 512MB Sandisk CF card.
And no, you can not uninstall any Palm OS programs, they are there for good.

Thanks,

I tried that version and am having crashes, perhaps due to a hack already installed. However, they told me (Pocket Tunes) that they are developing a native version for the NX series that should be out sometime around the end of the year/beginning 2005.

Thanks for your input.

That's great news if Pocket Tunes will be released for the NX series. Thanks for the heads up!

For the built-in AudioPlayer:
There is a free utility (AlbumSwap) that lets you organize music by albums or playlists
http://www.aibohack.com/clie/albumswap.htm

MCA2 is not required for this setup.
IMHO: this is the best player if you are playing CBR MP3 files.

----
If you want to try out a 3rd party MP3 player, the two most common are PocketTunes and AeroPlayer. They are not free, but do have trial version.

To run either on the NX (or NZ or TG) you will need MCA2.
Try version 2.03 (also free)
http://www.aibohack.com/clie/modclieaud.htm

Some people have reported problems with the latest Pocket Tunes 3.
If you have problems then wait for MCA 2.05 (coming soon, the final release)

These 3rd party players have many other features, can play almost any MP3 file as well as other formats (OGG, WMA etc)

I too use AlbumSwap to manage multiple folders of music. However, the stumbling block I run into is when I want to create a "playlist" of MP3 across different folders. The natural way to do this is to copy the file over to a new folder and use AlbumSwap. However, this is very slow since you're potentially copying several tens if not hundreds of Mb.

Unfortunately, the CLIE implements a move as a copy (to the new location) follow by a delete (of the file in the old location). There are 2 problems with this: 1) it is slow & 2) it requires you to have enough free space to have 2 copies of any file at any time.

Anyone have a better solution?

It's pretty straight-forward. The CLIE will only play MP3 that are in the /PALM/PROGRAM/MSAUDIO folder. You can use whatever means you need to get the files there: card reader, MSExport, CLIE Files, FileZ, etc.

Thank you George,
That worked great... so do you know if there is a way to separate cd into folders and or know a good easy soft ware to buy?
One more question, I just got a Lan card w100 and I know there are a lot of threads... but so much to look though, do you know how? I'm just interested in using hot spots since I do not have wireless at home.
Thanks again for your help!!
