What kind of ZL Plugins would you like to see?

Well I know today is the first day of the public beta, however I have room for 6 additional plugins on my plugin tab above and beyond the 3 that came with the beta. Time for you third party guys to get on the stick! :D

Here are my thoughts from the ZLauncher 5.00 thread

Overall, I really like the plugin system. This is a great way to expand the functionality of the program without adding significant bloat. If you are like wellsjs and don't need the today plugin, don't install it. It's that simple. plus, this opens a way for other developers to add functionality to ZLauncher beyond skins. Some I would like to see include a plugin that would get weather data from say Weather.com and display it in the plugin tab (a la WorldMate Pro), an analog clock, a calender, or an astronomical data plugin (phases of the moon, sunrise/sunset, orientation of the Jovian satellites). Perhaps Normsoft can create a plugin to control Pockettunes audio from the tab.

Not sure what you meant by that. Are you referring to the screenshot that I posted in the other thread (shown below)? That is the same way Perk did his, except I use A5 instead of the Palm's DateBook and ToDo.

I think there is a box that you check in the plugins prefs to make tabs for the plugins.:) I have to check myself.

Gosh I like that idea! :cool: For me, it'd be cool if I can have a tab of just my plucker (maybe soon it will be isilo tho) internet clippings, and then tap on a clipping name in the web clippings tab for automatic opening with the PPI hooking me up with Plucker or iSilo. (I'm not sure how powerful plugins are, but the dictionary lookup plugin in Plucker does something like that-- you tap a word and it'll open up the translation in kdic dictionary~ the plucker KDIC plug-in is so freaking cool & goshdarn helpful altho it would be nice if those plucker folks also had allowed e4u dic to look up stuff and not just kdic .. . )

(Actually, I tried to set this up on Appshelf by making a "custom" tab, but it wouldn't take plucker or isilo as programs it could hook into~ just KDIC and DaMemoPad and stuff like that :confused: )

There isn't a preferences setting for it. Mine probably looks different because I have my tabs set up on the right side as opposed to top or bottom.

I'm using an NX70 with Datebk 5. It could also be dependent on the font size you use. Sorry I can't help more. :(

Fired it up, it's quite impressive, but yeah, since KeySuite doesn't use the built in database, it doesn't reflect anything in my calendar with the Today Plugin. :(

I struggled with this problem, too!! But I FINALLY figured out why the today plugin appears to the right: under Options --> ZL Preferences --> General, make sure the box next to "Lefty" isn't checked. I'm a lefty, so naturally, I went ahead and checked it, not thinking it would change much except for the location of the scroll bar. But since I don't even use a scroll bar, it caused the Today plugin to be moved to the right to make space for the non-existant scroll bar!! Hope this helps ya!

I would like to see an extensive (but choice to do less) Font plugin like Fonts4OS5. Fonts4OS5 is a great program don't get me wrong. But there are like a dozen fonts not included with it and more variety of size I would like to have. Besides if you do the move usused fonts to a card then you don't really have to worry about how much space they take. Which I think Fonts4OS5 does this too. I'm still using the trial period of Fonts4OS5 so if we can get a plugin that does the same thing I won't have to buy Fonts4OS5.

Oh and a icon plugin that allows you to change icons on all installed apps.

Is it hard to develope plugins for Zlauncher? Maybe I could make some. I am a freelance programmer.

I'd like to see a scratch pad plugin, for quickly jotting down short notes. Just one pen colour, to minimize memory overhead. Having multiple notes with an icon (bent corner maybe) to flip through them would be cool as well.

For more complex stuff there's always the Clie MEMO or BugMe, but neither is as quick as what a ZL plugin would be. ;)

As a side note, I'd like to see some way to configure the layout of plugins on the "Plugin" tab itself, so that I could have the clock to the left or right of the Today screen, as opposed to below. In other words, assigning placements/sizes for each plugin in the Plugin tab. Now THAT would be cool.... I guess I should send that to ZZTechs though. ;)

I think that plugin concept is a rapid view for some info needed, and not a complex system, because if you want some functions that exceed from a simple view, its more simple run the app. and an icon on top or botton bar make the job for a rapid access.

so today, clock, calendar, next events or notes, some other things could be nice, no more.

otherwise, rollover meetings from agendus require a previous agendus run to appear on todays screen, if this could be updated, its a goal.

I don't spend lots of time actually IN ZLauncher either, but having a scratchpad immediately available to jot down a number would be handy, instead of mapping a button to Clie MEMO or a third party app.

Also, the note will always be visible (depending on your ZL config of course).

For example, I've set up my plugs to be in a tab, and I made the Plugin Tab to be the first, so whenever I exit an application, that's the tab ZL defaults to.

How did you get the date at the top, then the today, and then the clock. I have tried all the choices I could think of and I get the clock next to the today, I can't get the calendar, please help. Thanks.

1) Alarms, are a lot of apps. that you can configure alarms, notes, datebook, memos, billings, and those alarms go to the same place, so if you only see the datebook at todays plugins you are not looking them, what about to complement today's config with an alarms config option, so you can see what alarms are poending to ring in your pda that day.

2) What abaout to make a poll with the more votes plugins plans?

There are 2 kinds of Plugin setup, tab and popup. The one in ZLPreferences is popup version, which can be turned on / off on each category tabs. You can set up the Today plugin in popup and tab separately. Thanks for the help, but I must be missing something. In the ZLPreferences it gives me the chice of where to put it, top, topmost, etc. and if I choose Top it appearrs on every tab. If I go to the repective tab properties I can't change it or turn it off, it seems as though if it is turned on in ZLPreferences it is on everywhere. What am I missing? Thanks.

I have mine set to plugin panel none and checked the plugin tab so I can just go to the tab when i want to use plugins. It appear there is an option in each tabs settings to set hide plugin panel. I just did a little test on mine and it seems to remember the last state of the plugin panel for each tab. So choose place and then just hide the panel on each tab that you don't want it to show and next time you go to that tab it should still be hidden. I got beta 3.1 on mine.

Yes. You miss to see the Plugin popup on/off button on the left-end of my bottom bar (up arrow button). You can toggle the Today popup on/off by tapping that button.

As far as popup location, I selected on Top. If I have a top bar, this popup will pop up below it. If I select Top most instead, this popup will pop up above the top bar. The same logic goes to the bottom and bottom most option. The left and right are gimmies. I hope that is clear, otherwise, post away. ;)

Thanks for the help treffmeister, I didn't know that either. Only thing I have found is that there is no way to use small fonts with the pop up version. I found how to change the font size but it seems to be missing the small size fonts, is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

chaning it there does not change it with the pop up button. If I have set one of the buttons on the bottom toolbar as a pluging for today and launch it that way, there are only 4 font choices. Those choices are found by going to the top/bottom tab and clicking once on the popup icon. Go to preferences in the pop up menu and then select text font and there are only 4 choices. Can you confirm this?

I use Fonts4OS5. It shows 8 font sizes (4 regular & 4 bold fonts). Your Palm OS fonts may only show 4 regular sizes.

This would be a nice plugin to have. Also, I wish plugins could be put in the top or bottom bars. I use the BlueXP theme and my top bar is always blank except for the green part on the left where the start menu would be in Windows, and the categories drop down list. Between those two, I never have anything else, so it would be cool if we could put plugins like a horizontal scrolling text plugin in there.

I see that I'm coming late to this discussion of ZLauncher plugins, but I recently upgraded to ZL 5.0. I love the today plugin, but the todo part if it doesn't work for me. I use Franklin Covey's Task List for my todos which, as some know, organizes tasks with an ABC, 123 priority system. The today plugin ignores the ABC information. So my unimportant C1 task is ranked the same in the today plugin as my very important A1 task-- both are simply treated as having a priority of 1.

It would be awesome if someone could write a plugin that would allow me to point to Task List as my todo app and retain/incorporate both the ABC and 123 portions of the priority system. This way, I could turn off todos in the ZL today plugin and use the alternative todo plugin.

You type in what you want to search, your default browser then goes to google and automtically search for the item your lookin for? :) Oh and what about an RSS Feed display? If you have your pda set up to automatically download your RSS stuff certain time of day and when you open it up on the RSS plugin it would display the feed in text :)

Tbmp can convert from BMP to JPG and vice-versa onboard your device. Although I still prefer TealPaint for converting my images (GIF to), but then again I didn't have to shell out 19.95 (beta tester).
