I anticipating the eminent arrival of my "very slightly" used TH-55. What do I need to do to remove all remnants of the previous owner, hot-sync name etc. So that I can get ready to hot-sync all of my information from the desktop. I've used a T615 for 2.5 years so I have lots of previous information. Any suggestions. TIA

It should come to you "naked." I doubt that the previous owner wants you to have any personal data he/she may have had on the TH, so he/she probably already did a hard reset. If not, then you need to do the hard reset. Then you should remove anything you think might cause the TH to crash from your T-615 (such as the keyboard driver for the KB-11, or any OS 4.x only software). Hotsync your T-615, then hotsync your newly acquired TH. It should move everything from your T-615 backup files to your TH. This will require you to use the same hotsync name as you did for the T-615. Pop the memory stick out of the T-615, and plug into the TH and you should be in business.

I would suggest Shadowhuah do a little research before giving "expert" advice. The T-615 is a Palm OS4 device. If you hotsync the TH55 (OS5) to the system backed up files from the T-615, you will have yourself a nightmare! For instance, hacks do not work on OS5 (DAs are the equivalent on OS5). Trying to determine what files will work on OS5 (as Shadowhuah suggests) is hit 'n miss, and the misses are painful (could result in endless, difficult to exit, resets)! Do yourself a favor and build your TH55 fresh. Reload all your apps from scratch. Your OS4 preferences file is of no use on an OS5 device, and that's where much of your customization (tweaking) resides. Your PIM data (datebook, address book, todos) should be preserved and backed up on your PC. If you use Outlook there should be no problem re-syncing it once the Intellisync lite is configured properly. If you use the Palm Desktop then use the Sony provided converter. Depending on what you have on your MS, "Pop the memory stick out of the T-615, and plug into the TH and you should be in business" is also bad advice! ;)

Hey WellsJs,
Firstly my "expert" advice is based on experience. I did exactly what I suggested from my old T-615 to my new TH. The ONLY problem I had was the keyboard driver (KB-11) crashing my TH. I did not use hacks so there was no problem with any other programs. It WAS that easy for me. Not a nightmare. Also, the memory stick transfer was absolutley no problem.
Secondly, from one believer to another, how about taking it easy when slamming the door on someone. Sawdust in my eye and the plank in yours...etc.
I agree that I did not think to mention hacks, or DA's because I haven't used them, so I assume your point is valid. I will, therefore, assume your advice is appropriate when dealing with a device with hacks and DAs. But it sure saved me a lot of time doing it my way in my situation.
BTW, I did not say that my advice was expert. I am a faithful reader and user of this board, but I realize that I am no expert. I guess when my post rate is near 2,000 like yours, perhaps I will qualify. Anyway, I apologize for raising your BP.

No BP problem here and if it came across as a "slam" I'm sorry. I would recommend considering the broader picture when offering suggestions. If your device was simply configured, that does not mean someone else's is. Best to cover all the bases as I attempted to do. Please accept my apology if I offended you in any way. ;)

I just recently switched from a SJ-33 to the TH-55 and I just did a re-store from Back-up Buddy and I did have a few problems. Now the problems were with the saved prefences.
I would now recommend only restore selected items. Datebook, ALL the address book info., etc....
Or if you do it all you can deleate items afterwords and then customize the TH-55.
Read this site it has so much help on it.

I upgraded from a T665C and I just plugged in my TH55 and did a hotsync. Everything appeared to be fine. Surprisingly I found that my 4th button got configured to my Memos without the need for TheGoGo. The OS4 Preference file did that. I did have HackMaster but knew that neither it or the hacks would work. It was quick and easy and appeared to work with the added benefit of remapping my 4th hardware button. I subsequently discovered that my alarm sounds were locked up. I couldnt select any different alarms. I had to do a hard reset and then individually reinstall each of my programs. It took longer but I think a clean install is always best. As it was it took considerably longer for me to figure out what was causing my problem and then do what I should have done from the first.
Do NOT assume you can do the upgrade from OS4 by just hot-sync your new unit. You will have problems with your system files. My experience with the 4th hardware button is interesting though. It suggests that there is something in the OS4 preferences which does this mapping that was intentionally left out of the TH55 (a very poor decision by Sony as it turned out).

The best way IMHO to migrate from, say, a T665 to a TH55 is to re-install any third apps manually, then import any data files they have.
It's not possible to import individual preferences sadly, so some things will get lost.
Also, copy all your HotSync ID's address/todo/memo/datebook directories somewhere, so when you create a new HotSync Id on the new one you can just copy them into this new ID, set HotSync to Overwrite Handheld (ONLY for address/todo/memo/datebook) and all that stuff will be imported over ;)
Remember to set options before doing this 'tho (e.g. set Memo from Sort:Alpha to Sort:Manual)

Hey Wellsjs,
Thanks for the note. Learned my lesson on this. I will try to braoden my scope and take care when giving advice....Looks like the majority of the posts agree with you. I must have really had a simple setup on my old T-615. Not so with my TH!
Thanks again,

in the clie page support they have a program for transport al the PIM data to newer palms, and if the software is the problem, add it by yourself!!

Thanks for all the advice. Guys I'm a Christian too. Thank God he's brought us all together and thank him for his Son. No matter how many times I fall, He lifts me back up and forgives.
From a chorus we sang at worship:
"Lord, you are more precious than silver.
Lord, you are most costly than gold.
Lord, you are more beautiful than diamonds;
And nothing I desire compares to you."
Thats what we sang about Him, but didn't He say the same about us over 2000 years ago.
enough of the christian crap already! Sorry, I wouldn't usually say but you guys are starting to get offensive here. Surely there's some sort of rule against this sort of rubbish .

Hey chill man, everyone's entitled. And there's no need to be rude like that, a simple "Would you guys mind un-hijacking this thread please? ;)" would have done.
That said, I agree we don't want this thread being moved into the Religion section, so... ;)
Sorry if I was rude, I apologise. Yeah ok - please refrain from hijacking the thread ;)

Sorry if I was rude, I apologise. Yeah ok - please refrain from hijacking the thread ;)That's more like it! :) BTW, we have to put up with a lot of "worldly crap" around here, so a little "christian crap" as you call it should be completely permissable. Otherwise, someone would have to police, clean up, and sensor both to be fair. Do you want that? Now, let's get back to helping this individual get their new PDA configured! ;)

Interesting thread...I have another question. If I want to continue using my T-665 (I want to give it to my son with the same software) AND my new TH-55. How will HotSync know the difference and can my software be on two different PDAs at the same time?
