View Full Version : Getting those small icons

I had to do a hard reset.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the file I originally installed (that I believe some body took from another Clie model), which gave the N760 small, hires icons.

Does any one know where I can find that?

Thanks!

I just use yishow program launcher, it gives options for the size of icons and how to display them.

I know of yishow... But it wasn't that. It was simply from the 615 or something like that, and it worked with the basic launcher!

I think the T-Series launcher started having the small icon option.

You are not talking about the "View By: List" on the Menu, Option, Preferences of the default launcher, are you?

I think he's talking about using the T-series launcher. You can get it at nXt's club.

You guys are right, it must have been from the T-series launcher...

Where is nXt's club?

THanks,

Thank you very much, everybody!

Unfortunately, I searched and searched, but I cannot find it in any of the folders...

Do any of you have it?

Thanks again!

Hmm... I found it here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nXtClieClub/files/-Launchers/HiResDefaultLauncher.zip). I guess you didn't look hard enough. ;)

What ever you do with this HiResDefaultLauncher, DO NOT DELETE YOUR ORIGINAL DEFAULT LAUNCHER. Otherwise you'll be in big trouble after a hard reset as the App button will no longer function properly. Check this thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7216) for detail.

You can run JackSafe after you've put LauncherCW into FlashROM. After a hard reset/battery drain, it'll load the new HiRes launcher just fine. :)

Thanks for the tip. After all of the trouble I had with replacing the old LauncherCW with the new one, I'm a little gun shy about trying it again. Besides, I notice that MegaLauncher3.2.2, which is still my favorite 3rd-party launcher, does have similar "small" icons if I set the Large icon views to "Native" (find it by tapping the MegaLauncher Menu, Options, Setup views).

A safer option is to user freeware CRS Launcher. I haven't tried it, but I believe it supports small icons in the N series.

Unless you use Jack Sprat, to remove the old version of CWLauncher, you may run into problems with both versions on your Clie.

I did use JackSprat to remove the older version and use JackFlash to install the newer version to FlashROM. My problem, as it was pointed out by Sideway, was not to run JackSafe after this maneuvering. The problem was not apparent until I crashed my system that required a hard reset. After the hard reset, the default launcher screen was no longer displayed, only the preferences screen (panic city). Hitting App (Home) button wouldn't do anything other than bringing up the preferences screen. Thank goodness for the "Buttons" category in the Preferences screen still worked so I could assign a hard button to HotSync (this happened at home where I don't have the cradle, only the travel HotSync-USB cable, so no HotSync button to push). The rest is history.

I've had my Clie with the two versions of the LauncherCW for about an year and never noticed anything strange. The HiRes version always gets launched instead of the non-HiRes one.

So you haven't actually deleted the older version off the FlashROM?

I did. And my battery has drained completely 4 times after I've removed the old launcher due to some apps causing my Clie not to shut itself off.

I haven't ran JackSafe the first time it happened. Lucky I didn't remove MSGate and made a copy of JackFlash on my MS. After restoring everything from the backup and moving the new HiRes launcher into FlashROM, I ran JackSafe. Now the new launcher automatically launches after a hard reset.

Always good to have backup.

The safest way is to have both default launchers (the original one in ROM and the hires one in RAM). If you do want to really save every space in ROM, like Sideway said, you can remove the default launcher with JackSprat, then install the hires default launcher to ROM with JackFlash. However, besure to run JACKSAFE at the end so the hires default launcher will be automatically enabled after a hard reset, otherwise you are in a messy situation where there is no icon displayed on the screen.

juz to clarify... does tt means tt i can install HiResDefaultLauncher without affecting the default launcher? :) after installation, HiResDefaultLauncher will be in RAM while default launcher will still be in ROM rite? :)

Sideway

Yes. After HotSync, the HiResDefaultLauncher will be RAM while the "LoResDefaultLauncher" is still in ROM. The OS will always run the HiResDefaultLauncher in this setup.

DanT

Yes. I have done it myself.

If you don't use JackSprat/JackFlash, the default launcher will always be in ROM and no ROM backup needed.

You can also find it HERE (http://www.cliesource.com/sdownload/index.php?catid=10&sortby=lastmodifydate&sortorder=DESC&page=3) on Cliesource (it's in the files section under "Launchers").
