I've looked through a lot of threads, and haven't found this info.
Can the wi-fi card for the nx/nz series clies be used to connect to a bluetooth phone, or is this a completely different protocol. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
And if you can't, how can a web enabled phone be used with the wi-fi? Thanks for the help.

the wifi is not used with mobile phones, its used with the a WLAN. The bluetooth MS can be used to connect your bt phone to your clie... hope that makes sense!

As GenoG stated they are very different, in fact they are entirely not compatible. So unfortunatley wifi cannot be used to connect to your bluetooth phone nor can blue tooth connect to anything wifi. Sorry.

Bluetooth can be connected to a single PC so equipped. The range and speed are no match for the WiFi 802.11b LAN card.
Bluetooth is more suited to interact between devices like phones and cameras.

What is really needed is a mobile phone that will accept WiFi signals. If I'm correct, it seems like WiFi is winning the market dominance over BT. I can't believe it would be too hard create a phone that can mimick WLAN protocols.

They are two different items, although there is some crossover. I suppose it possible to manufacture a phone with WLAN enabled if someone wanted too. Everyone has to get their cut and piece of the action :)!

I think some work is actually being done in this area, although not in the same capacity as is being discussed. I believe I read that the feasibility of nation-wide wi-fi is being considered, in which case your wi-fi equipped cell phone would be able to connect anywhere without roaming, you could connect to the internet in much the same way, and wi-fi integrated cars could access maps, movie times, restaurant info, etc... all for a single monthly charge. I think signal amplification is just one of the many issues that they are dealing with in this pursuit.

However wifi and bluetooth really have different purposes. Bluetooth was originally developed for keyboards, mice and other peripherals to talk to each other and a local computer without wires. It then got messed up when it became this mini-network. Wifi was always meant to be a wireless ethernet of sorts. I still beleiev there is a need for a local wireless, to talk between items and not be bogged down by standard network traffic. I know blue tooth has lots of traffic but when it was first conceived it didn't. Just my 2 cents
