Would the Clie UX make any use of the faster
access speed of the MS/Pro UltraII (9-10MB/s)
over the regular PS/Pro (15Mb/s) ?
Even if these rates are theorical, the UltraII
seems 5x faster...
Would the UX50 be capable of accessing the
MS card that speed anyway ?
Thanks for any hints,
(I could not find anything in forums)

I guess your question is "at what speed does
the UX50 access the MS card", right ?

Kinda, there are different versions of the Memory Stick and the speed in which it's accessed by the device. He's asking if it would use the speed offered with UltraII. I don't have the answer, but it's a pretty good question.
the answer is, unfortunately, no.
from the sonystyle website (about the memory stick slot in the ux50):
"Supports ATRAC3 secure audio content when used with MagicGate Memory Stick media in capacities up to 128 MB. Tested to support Memory Stick PRO media capacities up to 1 GB, does not support high-speed transfer, does not support access control security function, and does not support MagicGate copyright protection in Memory Stick PRO media."

Thanks Geps,

Does this mean that even the extra speed of the
MS/Pro (15Mbps theorical) is not used either ?
I am asking this because my UX50 becomes very
slow when I plug my old MS 64MB (heavily loaded
of SW) probably doing some listing of the content
of the MS (many files, not big each).
I am scared about taking a 1GB MS/Pro and my
UX50 taking 15 mn to go out of sleep mode !!!
Any hints from users of MS/Pro >= 512MB with
mixed content on UX ?
Thanks,

I've got a 2GB Memory Stick and I don't see any appreciable slow down - except when using Clie Viewer, but then that's because of the sheer number of files it has to enumerate in its search. :)

...hmmmm...

don't worry, the UX takes advantage of the extra speed of MS/Pro (and, at least on the UX, MS/Pro make the difference.. they are visibly faster than a regular MS).
what the UX does not, is reaching the UltraII speed.

Thanks all for sharing your experience!
I will then go for a Sandisk regular 1GB MS/Pro
I could not find it below 190? out of the EEC
so I guess I will order it there, from Germany.
Let me know if anybody knows even lower cost
on-line shopping within the EEC (outside EEC is
sometimes a pain and extra cost going through
the custom, so only viable for huge bargain!)
Thanks,
