View Full Version : MPEG on NX70
ClieMax

Maybe I am completely stupid or there is just something, nobody told me before: SONY says it is possible to put raw .mpeg4 files / movies on the Clie. Well, I have a MAC and encoded them to .mp4. That do not work!
What else can I do to see my movies on the Clie? The normal encoding by Image Converter works. But I want to "install" them by mounting the MS and put them by "drag'n drop" as mpeg.
Any idea? What settings are necessary for using QuickTime to convert an .mov to .mpeg?

Unfortunately, the NX won't read any MPEG4 file that was not transcoded with Image Converter (remember, DivX 5 is also MPEG4!), since it uses a proprietary MPEG4 profile. Quicktime can read those files, but isn't able to encode them.
The only video files you can put on your Clié is raw MPEG1. According to someone in this forum, I think it was cbulock (I myself actually never tried that), you have to copy them to /MSSONY/MOML0001/ on your MS and rename them to MOV*****.MPG (e.g. MOV00001.MPG). Depending on what bitrate has been used to encode the file, you might either get fluid or choppy playback with a lot of dropped frames.

And apparently not all MPEG1 files work, either. I encoded an AVI file as an MPEG1 file using bbMpeg, put it on the MS with the proper name, and fired up Movie Player. It found the file, but displayed the file name as ??? and said it didn't recognise the format. :(
I did have luck with an MPEG file I made with the old avi2mpg program, though.
