Hi nz enthusiast,
I've just found one of the web site where it claimed that the current two giant PDAs are NZ90 and iPaq h5455 which equip with Palm 5.0 and Pocket 2002 OS respectively.
What do you think of the tech specs ??

Both are good if you get one working. I had problems with both. Had to return the 5455 twice and the NZ90 3 times.
1)Both eat batteries when compaired to "slower" units.
2)I still like the pocketpc os just a bit more- transfers outlook more completly.
3) sony has a 2mp camera. Good in well lit areas. poor in low light. but it does come with a flash.
4) 64mb of memory on the pocketpc is good no matter what people say. Palm apps are much bigger than it used to be so 11mb is easy to fillup.
5) core apps load quicker on the palm
6) more software avail for palm
7) Bluetooth supported more on the palm.
8) map software to me is better on the pocketpc
9) resolution is better on the palm, but the screen color and brightness is better on the HP5455. For one thing, no blue tint.
10) Sound are equal.

I do agreed that Palm s/w are getting more complicated and hence require large storage. I can still remember the initial iPaq 3660 (which I've owned) model, the 64Mb RAM were easily filled up and hence require the sleeve adapter to provide the extra memory via CF slot (That really cause the unit to ballon in size).
SONY should give more RAM to nz for ease of storing application programs.

i have jus bought the sony clie nz 90 but ordered it and still havent gotten it in yet. but i have seen it many times and i tink it is the greatest thing to touch the earth. Even though it has lack of battery power and mb i still think that it has still dominated palm pilots of all kinds And wat amazes me the most is that it can work on mac by using missing sync software (so ive herd).
The nice thing with WinCE is that there is no issues with installing applications directly to a card folder. However, having used WinCE / PocketPC I am ready to dive into a Palm OS. gotta figure out how to run everything off a card memory though. (smile)
Yeah, Marudine. I vote with you, more ram for apps seem appropiate.

u can always upgrade yer palm over here (viz 3rd party)
e.g. for NZ, u can get 16Mb ioncreased to 32Mb
tho u loose sony warranty
BUT u get 3rd party warranty
remmeber years aago i updated by 2MB M100 to 8Mb and it worked fine even until now

I have a friend here at work... with the h5455 and Comparing it to my NZ.... well... I think he is more or less kicking himself in the teeth. He lost his Handspring Edge and decided (against all of our advice here) to leave the PALM world and go PPC.
His battery has significantly less 'usage' than my NZ. He keeps his on the charger at all times... because of the significant drain of BT or WiFi.
Screen Resolution is less (But I do agree with starstreak in the colors are a bit better).
No Keyboard on the H5455 (I do actually use it for inputting data on several apps on my NZ)
He can't get his AVANT-GO to work from here at work (PPC's desktop version has issues with our proxy setup where It works seamless with the Palm Desktop Software).
h5455 has caused him Heartaches on at least 3 seperate occasions with not being able to use the fingerprint identification (sucks when you are in a meeting and you can't even scan ya own fingerprint....)
To me, the best part of PALM is the variety of Software. I think it is difficult to compare what is available for PPC agains Palm. Development for Palm, whether it be Apps, or graphic skins are so much easier against the Palm world than the PPC world.
While the h5455 might be a bit cheaper than the NZ ..... I think down the road.. when you actually go and buy all the apps you want..... PPC will end up out-costing the NZ.

Marudine,
Oh Yeah!!!!!!!! I've been a Palm User for some time. (Mostly with the Handsping Line). Finally got out of the Dark Ages (160x160 Grayscale) and moved up to COLOR. I just can't think of a reason... to go PPC at this point. I'm not against Microsoft (They help our economy out here in Seattle *Laffing*)... but I don't see any real benefit of their PPC software over Palm. I think Palm is GREAT and suits all my needs. I'll stick with the Palm Community. I am glad to finally go from a 33mhz to a 200mhz processor ... that was a huge difference! I'll bet dollars to donuts... my 200mhz NZ... runs as fast or faster than his 400mhz h5455. PPC has too much overhead from what I've seen..... again just my 2cents and opinions here.

To my surprise, the iPaq h5455 does not have a compact flash slot ! (where have I heard that before ?-)

Another PocketPC suggestion is the Toshiba e740
[under $370 refurb: http://shopper.cnet.com/shopping/resellers/0-205442-311-20033518-3.html?fl=0&tag=st.sh.205442-311-20033518.sort.price ]
Similar to the more expensive and bigger iPaq 5455 (including built-in WiFi). The e740 does not have a nice transflexive screen (but the new e750 does , $$$)
The Toshiba does not have Bluetooth built-in, but it does have a (working) Compact Flash slot instead

IMHO:
Debating Pocket PC v. Palm is an old topic. It is a personal decision.
My suggestion would be that neither of the $700+ PDAs (h5455 or NZ90) be someone's first PDA of that category.
If you still haven't decided if you are in the "PocketPC" or "Palm/CLIE camp", you can make the decision by spending a lot less.
The h5455 is the top-of-the-line for PocketPC fans.
The NZ90 is the top-of-the-line for Palm/CLIE fans.

GREAT point. Thank you.
THe NZ is not a way to figure out what one want. (smile) However, it is a gadget to own because it is state of the art, just as some PalmPC's. I have been using WinCE and PalmPC for years and am going to get a NZ simply beacuse it is so much fun. Only thing I would like to see, is the kind of solid web-browser which is on the PalmPC's. that is really the only thing I feel that I miss on the Palm OS... HOWEVER. the Clie is faster and more fun... so Clie it is.!

Too Funny. I wonder how many Post-its and Pens I could have gotten for my $799 Clie and Memory Stick. ..... Course I'd need a big wall to put all the information so I could get it... *Laffing*
