Hmmmm! No mention of fixes for TH55 compatibility issues? I'll wait to see if TH55ers report the same ol' same ol' or improvement. Meanwhile, FontSubst is working like a charm for me! :)

Wellsjs,
please, what is your problem with TH55 and Fonts4OS5?

lubakPicsel Viewer, NetFront, and other programs crash (soft reset). When I bought my TH55 and loaded Fonts4OS5, I had so many soft resets I couldn't keep up with them. I uninstalled it and almost never have a soft reset now! This was immediately after a "clean install."

I then tried FontSubst and had no problems. So I though I'd give Fonts4OS5 another try . . . same results . . . soft resets galore! It's possible that Jot/Word Complete and Fonts4OS5 don't play well together. That's my best advice on how to narrow the problem down. I do use Jot/WC with FontSubst with no problem. ;)

Thank you.
I'll look this problem in next release.
I have TH55 too - but I don't use Picsel (but I know about problem with it).
But about problems with other programs I don't know :(
Probably this problem may be with Fonts4OS5 and Jot/WC together.

Interesting. I've used F4OS5 from day one on my TH55 and have never experienced an issue as you described wellsjs. I use NetFront just about every day, and Piscel about every other day and no anomalies to report.

Nope. :) That may possibly be your issue?? I strongly suspect it is.

DanT,
and do you have same problems? I install Jot/WC yesterday, but all apps still work O.K.

Not only have I never had any crashes with Fonts4OS5, but would like to say that lubak is one of the best developers in responding to requests. I asked for a larger Comic Sans font a few months ago and got a beta version within 48 hours.

[QUOTE=wellsjs]Picsel Viewer, NetFront, and other programs crash (soft reset).

Same problem for me: Picsel Viewer freeze or it can't open document (only solution is soft-reset and don't use Picsel Viewer).
I've Fonts4OS5, theGoGo and Tealscript installed on my TH55 US version.

Another possible conflicting app is TealLock. When the soft resets occured, it would boot up with TealLock not activated, which is under no circumstances, supposed to happen. Would defeat the purpose of a security app if you could gain access to the device with a soft reset. My TealLock settings are correctly applied to prevent this under normal circumstances. So with a couple others ruling out Jot/WC, maybe the conflict is with Fonts4OS5 and TealLock. Not sure why soft resets would occur in other applications, however. This is a mystery to me! :)

I am using a NX80V.
Whenever I install Fonts4OS5 version 2.10, I get infinite crashes and have to soft reset, uninstall 2.10 and reinstall 2.00. Has anyone else owning a NX80V had any problems with 2.10? Maybe it is some other program that is not playing nice with 2.10. But as long as I keep 2.00 running in my Flash ROM, it's all gravy. Maybe 2.10 doesn't like to be put in Flash. I'll just wait on the next release and keep using 2.00. I can't wait for more fonts and a newer version. Keep up the good work Lubak!! :)

I love Fonts4OS5. The Bookman font is nice, but just a trifle big for me. A smaller size (18pt or 20pt) would be ideal.

You're right. I don't have the same problem, in fact, no problem sofar (crossed finger and made a MSBackup of RAM before hand) with the trial version.

This is indeed a cool app. I didn't realize how much easier I can read the text now. Before I'm having problem identifying capital letter "I" and small letter "l" as in lost. The word "Illinois" looks like "lllnois".

Thanks for your comment lubak. I think I'll buy it.

I agree. I liked this new font a lot. Just too large. Only the first two letters of the names of my apps now show in the launcher. ;)

Well, I spoke too soon. I got crashes after trying to set Doc2Go back to default from Comic Sans 20, which I had use it for All Applications. Now no matter what font I choose, as soon as I tap Select button, my TH55 crashes. :(

I deleted Font4OS5 with all of its database and reinstalled it. This time I only select A5 with Comic Sans 20 font. The rest of the apps and system are at the default font. May be I'll change the font on one app at a time.

Does the Sans Serif 16 work? I really want that font on my TH55

DanT

I picked San Serif 16 for A5 and eReader in my TH55 and it seems to be working.

I don't like that font because of the same problem with the default font (i.e., the capital "I" as in "IVAN" and small letter "l" as in "lost" look the same.)

Is A5 another app like Fonts4Os5? Does smaller fonts are more incompatible?

No. A5 is a DateBook & ToDoList combined freeware app that you can get it from http://a5agenda.com/. Check the screenshots of my A5 below. The A5 w/ default font is on the left and the one w/ Font4OS5 Comic Sans 20 font is on the right.

Is there any chance of a version of Fonts4os5 that will work on Japanese systems? By work I mean: change the 1 byte Latin fonts but leave the 2 byte Japanese fonts to display as normal.

I tried manually convert my apps' default font to Comic Sans 20. Prefs refuses to convert. There were some soft resets occuring during some conversions, e.g., WA Clock, but they accepted the new fonts afterwards.

I am also trying Fonts4OS5 2.11. I really like the Comic 22. I use Jot/WC, but don't thing that caused the problems I've had. I tried to change Palm Insider Pro to default fonts because Comic doesn't scale down well. After using the command bar icon to bring Fonts4OS5 up and changing the font for PIP to default, I received a soft reset immediately and then every time I tried to access any font in F4OS5. Deleting the Fonts4OS5Data file didn't help. I finally had to uninstall it from my T3 with Uninstall and then reinstall it from scratch. So far it works OK.

I also use TealLock, but haven't activated it since installing Fonts4OS5. I'll try that next.

Well, that was quick. Fonts4OS5 2.11 will not work with TealLock--immediate fatal exception after a manual soft reset, then an endless loop of fatal exceptions. Only selecting No to enabling Fonts4OS5 after a reset breaks the loop. Even after turning TealLock off, Fonts4OS5 will no longer select a font without a fatal exception. Deleting Fonts4OS5's preference setting in Saved Preferences recovered its ability to work again. It seems that Fonts4OS5's Saved Preference setting becomes corrupted easily and then basically disables the app, creating an endless loop of soft resets.

I'm dying to register this program to gain the use of Comic 22 (which I requested some months ago - thanks Lubak!) as my T3's default font, but can't sacrifice security to do so. I hope that this incompatibility is fixed.

Well, well . . . so it appears TealLock IS the major (but not the only, i.e. DTG, Picsel Viewer) app that Fonts4OS5 doesn't work well with, especially on a TH55. ;)

I don't use any TealPoint stuff, but the newest version of Fonts won't work on my Zire 72 (no hacks whatsoever). When I try to apply a font like comic sans, 18pt, I get a fatal error and a reset.
???
I'd really like to get this figured out, because I could really use the change in fonts for my Zire!
;)

Yeah. I can't get any of the fonts to work without a reset. As soon as I tap "ok" for the message "Font will now be copied to RAM and activated", I get the fatal error.
I have all the fonts in the Fonts4OS5 folder on my SD card (SD:\Palm\Programs\Fonts4OS5), and have the app set to "automatically move unused fonts to card".
???

Weird. When I un-check "move unused fonts to card", it works.

Hey, same here! Once the "move unused fonts to card" is unchecked, it works fine in my previous tests with TealLock.

I also tried changing Palm Insider Pro to Palm default again. If I do it from the command bar, the font for everything changes, not just PIP. However, if I go into Fonts4OS5 from the launcher and change the setting for PIP, it works fine. No crashes in the process this time.

Looks like all the problems I encountered were related to that one setting. I'll play with it for another day or so before deciding if this is reliable enough on my T3 to register.

I found letters in Comic Sans 22 too thick to read clearly, especially when I look into dropdown Menu. Does anyone see similar situation? I now changed to Tahoma 22 for all application. Tahoma 22 works fine with Prefs and even with Doc2Go this time.

No, they looked fine to me in the menus. There are apps the do their own font scaling, and Comic Sans 22 didn't fare well in those, though. I put the onus on the apps that do their own scaling, though, and not on Comic Sans 22.

DanT

Thanks for your reply Tanker Bob. A5 and Doc2Go apparently do their own scaling.

Looking back, my problem was started after checking "Automatically move unused fonts to card". After reinstalled the app and left the option unchecked, the system seems to be stable.

Leaving the option unchecked is no big deal to me as I can just move the unused fonts manually.

All the problems I saw previously were with the trial version. The full version has worked perfectly so far. It gets along with TealLock and Jot just fine, and the move unused fonts to card checkbox functions without a problem. I even tested it from the command line, which caused a continuous reset loop in the trial version but works as designed in the full version. I haven't yet gotten the full version to fail in any way on my T3, and TealLock has been active the entire time.

I don't think the app changed. The one in the archive is dated 2/24/2004. The new fonts are welcome, though, especially Comic Sans 22!

My favorite font is the Tungsten font, but he one that comes with this software seems pixelated to me somehow -- it doesn't look quite liike the font on the Tungsten series. Anyone notice this too?
