Is Picsel Viewer worth keeping? I have WordSmith and Doc to Go. Why would I need Picsel Viewer?

What? No responses yet???
According to Picsel…
“Picsel' s exclusive technology, allows you to optimally display files, including all popular office formats (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML and Standard Image Formats), in a visually rich environment. Information can be viewed, manipulated and redistributed, to any mobile device, across any network, without content re-engineering or the source application residing on the device.
Picsel Viewer™ for Sony CLIÉ will enable users to experience myriad content, with zero distortion, exactly as it would appear on a desktop PC with minimal processor and memory footprints. Utilizing Picsel Viewer™ will allow users to benefit from the power of a PC without forfeiting the integrity and performance of their mobile device.”
I really can’t say how efficient Picsel works. One thing for sure is that it was developed well after Documents To Go, so it might be more “updated” in terms of from the “ground up” programming for Palm OS 5.
I think you’ll be fine with Documents To Go though. It’s a tried and true program. So is Wordsmith.
Cheers

Picsel is neat, but you pay a high price ram-wise....
Suprised that Redmond who is the most knowledgable former NZ owner ever didn't even try it on his... He's an expert about everything else....

You are correct. I have no working knowledge of Picsel, that's why I quoted from the Picsel website to help our Guest hmcmontes out. I never claimed working knowledge of Picsel.
I only speak my mind. I express my opinions without the need to flame or badmouth.
I do however have alot of experience on Docunents To Go. Let me know if you need any help.
Cheers

I bow to your wonder and majesty,O mighty Redmond keeper of the knowledge of the battery. Please forgive me for my insolent reply. May I lick your boots now? O wait , I must go to charge my battery of my crappy NZ which I'm in denial about...If only I had your great and mighty wisdom, I too would return my NZ nd then spend all my time attempting to show others the folly of their NZ purchasing. Please, tell us againthe story of the bad battery... Show us our folly. Teach us how to spend w isely,O mighty Redmond. Let no one else post, for only Redmond s peaks the truth. In his short t ime with his NZ, he mastered it's every intricacy and passed the final judgement upon it. Repent , Sony, for you have been f ound wanting. Your engineers have perpetrated a grave crime upon us. No more produce the lowly NZ for Redmond has declared it wanting.May the mighty Redmond forgive us all. We have sinned greatly in our enjoyment of the NZ. Quickly, to Ebay to sell them to the unwashed masses, lest we further incur the displeasure of Redmond....

Age and wisdom are relative. I've met some very immature adults and very mature youths.
Sarcasm and contempt can be expressed by either
To the subject, IMHO Picsel isn't worth the required memory footprint and I tried it out on my NZ......

Having played with Picsel quite a bit, I can’t see how it’s any better than Documents To Go and Adobe Acrobat reader. If anything, it’s inferior.
I also don’t understand why any one with “no working knowledge of Picsel” is attempting to respond to this thread or for that matter, continues to troll this forum with nothing but negativity and pseudo moderator “stick to the subject of this thread” comments.

Mr. T-I admire people that say what I'm thinking, only better.

I can give my 2cents about Picsel.
Some of the Advantages of Picsel are as follows:
No desktop software needed for Conversion.
Picsel can view files in their native format
Ability to read .pdf files as well as MS type files (.doc, .xls etc).
Screen Rotation. View your documents 'sideways' is nice to see more information.
Zoom is very nice and panning is a snap with the jog-dial.
Disadvantages:
VIEW ONLY. No editing of the files are allowed. Strictly for viewing.
Found issues with PDF Files. Some PDFs read just fine... and others are missing gross amounts of information (like 19+ pages). I think this has to do with bookmarks, or something in the .pdf files.
Formats some MS-Word Documents 'funny'. can end up showing a few 'blank pages' in the document. I wonder if this is somehow due to Tables in the documents and/or the header/footer areas being used. Not sure.
Overall.... I like the product. I have several documents here at work that I just send over to my MS for use when I'm Oncall. I don't want to do Word-processing on my PDA... nor create Excel Spreadsheets. I just want something that I can use to view certain documents on. Picsel seems to be a good tool for it, although there are some flaws with it.

I use isilo for html and pdf files, and docs to go for word files..but i hardly use word files
picsel viewer i thought was a clumsy interface, and just took up too much memory for me

Can I ask what you found to be clumsy about the interface? Is it the fact that it's significantly different from other palm os apps, and so difficult to adapt to, or do you think that there is some fundamental problem with the ergonomics?
Would you have any particular preference for an alternative interface?

I, personally like the interface. Seems to be very quick once you have a document open. I do think, sometimes, it takes a little long to 'refresh' the document fully. but part of that might be because the files I load are on my MS. It loads up the doc fine... but can take a bit (21page document) to get it 'fully refreshed/loaded' (20seconds maybe max for that document).
I think the interface is very easy to use all in all.

I own a CLIE NX and I am just wondering
if anyone here can send me a copy of Picsel to try out. Thanks.

Won't work onyour NX. Already tried...
I too like the interface. It is relatively easy to learn and it renders pages well. If I had 32 megs of ram or could run it off the stick, I'd leave it on...

Way too slow for one..not only that but all I wanted to do was go to next page, and could not for the life of me figure it out until I read the directions..
I want standard...sorry
