I browse through the recent announcement of Nokia 9500, Nokia 9300, RIM smartphone, Treo 650, HP smartphone, XDA and conclude that I want to keep my UX 50 for quiet a while.

I uses my UX50 extensively for email(Agendus pro), PIM(Agendus pro), FunSMS, and Database (JFile) while i am away from my G4 either in short trip (day trip / out of office) or 2-3 days trip. Eventhough my grafitti is good but I prefer to use keyboard. My conclusion is based on these factors.

Nokia 9500 seems to be a good replacement with wifi and BT but the size and the OS turn me off. Nokia 9300 seems to have better size but no wifi. But both Nokia offer very good keyboard which I use intensively.

RIM smartphone lack wifi and good keyboard eventhough I would like the 'push' email. On the contratry, with spam email on the rage, i am not sure if I want to down load all email. I want to be able to go to my webmail and delete those spam before downloading, specially when i use GPRS which I need to pay for downloading those junk.

Treo 650 is very close to my heart with improve resolution, BT, replacement battery, Palm OS, and 1.3mp camera. But then the keyboard is too small to be very useful for a long email or data input. The lack of WIFI is also limiting my connection.

HP Smartphone has all the connection but PPC OS and small keyboard (attach at the bottom) makes the form 'ugly'. The keyboard is not useful for long writting as well.

XDA is just too big to be use for a 'mobile phone' and lack keyboard.

SE P910 keyboard and lack of wifi discourage me.

Yes... My UX 50 lack bigger screen, GSM mobile phone, and the battery is lousy (specially on wifi) but it has everything I want. It has BT, wifi, Palm OS and Good keyboard. I just bought an EB40 to resolve the battery issue and now I don't have to bring my charger for 2-3 days trip. As for the screen, I am getting use to it and with Font for UX, I can enlarge it.

Hence I am convincing myself not to upgrade to those smartphone and stay with my UX for a while before another 'killer' smartphone took me away from my UX.

I've just found some articles about the Motorola MPx.
Right now it looks like the best candidate to replace my UX50.
- 1.2 Megapixel cam
- potentially good QWERY keyboard (need to try it first)
- Wifi, GPRS, bluetooth
- Pen input
- SD/MMC slot
The only problem is that it's not yet available :-)

Don't forget the inherent stability of Palm over PPC (or Windows Mobile or Pocket.NET or whatever).
I'm keeping my UX50 for a while; especially if Skype [VOIP] for the Palm comes out!

I feel the same way. There is nothing out that can compare to my ux. I have been looking around and i could not find anything like it.. Either it doesnt have wifi or bluetooth, to big to ugly no keyboard( I hate grafitti area), I wish sony would make a better ux with all the hacks and a bigger screen, that everybody has come to know and want.

Same here. I plan on keeping mine for at least 4 years (been over 1 year so far). Nothing that Palm or Handspring produces even comes close to my UX. It's a shame that Sony is clearing out of the US market.

I'd be hard pressed to switch to another device that doesn't have a similar form factor, as well.
