i have simple desires. i want to go completely wireless. sometimes i want to connect my 665 (or other, if i must buy something new) to my home network, but more often and most important, i would like to be able to get email and do minor web surfing with my handheld ALONE, ie, in the best case not even with a separate telephone.

what's the best way to accomplish?

a smartphone (which one?).

a wifi or bluetooth setup?

modem?

what steps must i take to accomplish. i'm a little bit of a dufus here and having a difficult time figuring what i need. almost bought a treo 270 and a new account with t-mobile, thinking that would work, but there would be no wireless connect to home system.

all advice appreciated--

if only completely wireless cards like ther merlin cards were released for the clie, but sadly the only possibility is just a simple wi-fi card.
i'm probably goin to get flamed for this badly, but if you wanna go completely wireless and be connected at any time, you'd most likely want to go with a ppc. that way you can buy a wireless card like for tmobile and then buy another wi-fi card to connect to the home system.
there isn't any option like this for the clie now, and it doesn't seem like there will be because of sony's stubornness on the usage of their cf slot.

I agree, so I can be flamed too:D! Sony keeps it's CF API's a secret, so yes we all suffer in the name of Sony profits...

I wish people would stop whining about this. If you don't like Sony's business practices then stop throwing hundreds and thousands of dollars into their coffers.

don't get me wrong, i like sony products and i'm not whining, i'm just saying that because sony keeps their cf slot proprietery, you can't buy cf wireless cards from like tmobile or sprint.
its just a statement of fact

I have stopped throwing money at Sony! I am also entitled to give my opinion and tell those who question, how it is.

You know almost every thread turns into an arguement about the CF slot or PPC vs palm or some other hot topic.

THis thread veered badly off course, I see. I'm still trying to accomplish what I set out to accomplish in the first place, that is, use the 665 to connect to the web and to colelct email. I am willing to buy another PDA, and am partial to the Sony NV70 or maybe it's NX70--the silver one that doesn't weigh a ton like the 90. Or I gould get the Palm T|T, or a PPC if I must. I really don't see the utility of a PPC, however. Seems software is underdone and limited, and all the Palm stuff is cooler.

But someone please advise me on how to connect my 665 (or a 70) to a cell phone used as a modem (I have to get a new cell phone, too, apparent, as mine doesn't have IR and there is no cable).

A little help here, thanks--

Go here to see what phones are compatible with the clie via a cable:

I would think it would work with the 665, did you look back through the threads in this forum? I have no exp with bluetooth, IR, or cable to phones. I can use my laptop with my Sprint Phone, but that's not the clie.

sorry bout that, i misread the original thread at first. if you were planning on doing a little more than the occasional web surfing i'd recommend upgrading. because the nx lags a little when surfing, it only makes sense for the 665 with a slower processor to lag even more.

but as you said you were mainly planning to just check email right? if thats the case you should be find with the 665.
