Hello all,
I thought id take this opportunity to outline my thoughts on the NX70V after owning it for a few months now.
Some background history first.
I was a dedicated Pocket PC user at first having owned several handheld windows devices including the NINO, Compaq (both HPC & PPC), HP Jordana (both HPC & PPC) and others just to name a few.
I then took the strange move (at the time) to switch camps to the Palm OS system. My first Palm OS device was the m505. A top unit (i originally thought). One night searching through E-Bay lead me to the 'mythical' NR70V. At the time that device was only new to the world and unheard of in Australia.
So, after more searching around i found an auction which had a 'buy now' feature. The user was in the states and the auction was too good to be true. Some of you now might be saying, oh no, the too good to be true auction. Well, yup i fell for it and before i knew it i was out of pocket $400.00 U.S. E-bay in the end could come to the rescue!
After alot of mucking around (and swearing) i learnt from my mistake (or so i thought) and vowed never to fall into that trap again. I went back to my trusty m505. It served me good.
Anyway, the NR70V finally fit the shores of Australia and i got to take a look at it at one of the major stores here in Australia. Bummer, i thought to my self, this is what i would have had. But the price range put me off (considering i had already forked out $400.00 for a unit i didnt get). So i left it at that.
By chance again through E-Bay i was doing some searching when i heard of a new device called the NX70V. Again, stupid me looked for a too good to be true auction, this time located in Australia. Lo and behold i found one. Mind you the NX70V wasnt due to be released here in Australia for another 3 months. You know what? I nearly fell for the same (elaborate) trap again. Lucky for me one thing stopped me from sending off the money. Even though the auction was listed as 'in Australia' the seller was located in Taiwan. I wasnt going to send off another $500.00 U.S.
So, i waited for the NX70V to be released in Australia. This time i went to Sony Australia and made sure i was given top priority to get one. Turns out i was one of the first here in Melbourne to get one in my hot little hands. Again, a top unit i thought. Perfect for my needs. After using the camera (video and stills) i wondered why they didnt make it with a higher resolution. A flash would have been nice too !
So......after having the unit two weeks fate had me looking through E-Bay again for some accesories and as fate would have it i came across another 'mythical' beast, the NZ. Crist, i thought. Not another one. How many new units do Sony pump out?
You should have seen my face. Here i was thinking i had the latest Clie in my hands only to find out that there was a NZ coming out that (in theory) was better than the one i had. This one had a better resolution and a flash! Again, i wasnt too happy. I sure as hell wasnt going to fork out any more money for a new unit but i was going to cause some comotion as to why i wasnt told about this new unit. So off i went.
In the end it didnt really get anywhere apart from getting blacklisted by some Sony people. Sony Australia, if your reading this you will know who i am!
So, i waited. And waited. And waited for this new beast to hit our shores all the time thinking i had an inferior unit. I know, i know wait till the end of this post. Im the type of guy who wants the latest and greatest of everything... or should i say...used to be.
The new NZ hit the stores late last week (approx), so i rushed down to Sony Melbourne to take a look at it. You know what?
Whilst the NZ is a good unit, its not for me. Just too big, plasticky looking and definately not worth the $1600.00 they are retailing for.
I dont think there are enough features to justify the extra price tag they have slapped on the NZ.
I originally walked into Sony Melbourne ready to raise all hell and walked out of Sony Melbourne, smiles all round.
Why?
This little 'adventure' tought me a few things.
1. Never rush into anything no matter how good they seem to be.
2. Just because something is new and 'improved' doesnt necessarily mean 'improved' for my use.
3. Never make any judgements before you have the full facts.
4. The NX70V in my opinion is the best device on the market today. So what if it hasnt got a flash. So what if i cant take a the best pictures on earth. Do i really need bluetooth? I mean i havent even got any bluetooth devices at home (and im not planning on getting any either !)
AND.....
5. Never, never, ever ! take me out shopping....
