After re-reading everything about the hoax, I'm surprised no one caught on to TungstenInfo's first error/inaccuracy about his alleged Tungsten T5/E2 specifications.

Check out his description of his TE2 specs, which according to him was supposed to come out next spring:

The second model is the Tungsten|E2. It won't be released before April 2005, and surely won't have a HiRes+ screen. It will however run OS6, have 64MB RAM, and the same processor as the Zire72. The built-in bluetooth will be limited to 2 meter. The price will be around $250.

Bluetooth cannot be limited to 2 meters. If anyone picked this up in his first post, then you might have figured out it was a hoax to begin with.

In any case, bluetooth chips are cheap, there is no technological reason to limit BT range to 2 meters. When I first saw these specs, something just seemed fishy..

Good catch.

It's amazing how good one's hindsight is, and how generally poor is one's foresight.

Yeah, the E2's definitely a hoax. The T5, well we'll all know in just over 6 weeks won't we.

Unless it's a new technology for short distance PANs. I heard about that before. I think Sony(?) was developing something similar that aims to let you make payments from one device to another in close range -- e.g. vending machines, groceries, fastfood restaurants, car interfaces, etc.

for some reason, ihave a good feeling that a memeber of palmone reads these posts and uses the hoaxer's ideas to create a pda. I wouldnt be surprised if by Q4 2005 they would have such a pda with these specs (except for the part of 2 meter bluetooth).
