I just dropped my NX80 from a distance of 18" onto a cement floor. It hit on the top left hand corner while the screen was in the face up postion. I had a sick feeling in my stomach as I picked it up. Much to my surprise, the unit looked just fine. All the buttons work properly and the screen is just as beautiful as ever. I guess I just got lucky this time. I plan on being much more careful in the future. :o

Hey Little Jack:
You are definately lucky. Are you using a wrist strap on your clie? I do CONSTANTLY. I haven't dropped my NX80 but I have dropped previous models that were smaller with slick surfaces and no strap.
Cheers.

My NX80 has been surprisingly durable...I even let my 2-1/2 year old daughter play with it, and I have dropped it many times on many different surfaces. I keep it in my front pocket, without a case, and it has held up well. At this point, I am almost hoping for a screen break... I bought it from ComUSA with a 2yr replacement plan. Now that there are no more NX80's, I am hoping I'll get to swap it out for a TH55 when it does meet with an unfortunate accident. I anticipate it will meet its fate shortly before my 2 yr. replacement plan expires ;)

I always use wrist strap whenever my Nx-80 is in my Hand.It saves me a lots of time falling on ground.
Bye the way I also stick a transperent tape to back side and all corners, it will helps to retain original silver finish, beacuse in long use corners and letters on side buttons fadeout.
I do this on my sj22 to retain its original finish so now on my "Dear Nx-80".

I have often thought I should do an ad either for Sony or for Digital Express. I'm an intern, and my NX80v drops out of my pocket 2-3 times a day, right onto a hard, tile floor. And guess what? It works like a charm. I'm sure the case helps, but it's just leather.... Anyway, I appreciate that my NX thinks it's a tank.

I always have wrist strap on.
I havent found my nx80 as durable. ):
First drop was onto carpet from about 3-4 feet (table height), fell badly and swivel is off center now.
Seems to pick up scratches really easily. Though a case would probally solve that.
And dont get started on the bloody power slide switch :grrr:
And currently its in for repairs as i dropped it while taking it from the cradle and it swung from desk to side of computer - competly pushing in the scroll wheel.
I still prefer it over any other PDA.
Closest I have had to an indestructable one was my m100. Dropped, thrown, soaked, and all that before my toddler played with it :) Stood up to everything except becoming obslete ....

I do usually use the strap. On this particular occasion, it was sitting on a coffee table and I clumsily picked up something that was next to the PDA and knocked it off the table. From now on, if it is not on it's cradle or in my hand, it will be safely tucked into it's case.

I can't believe anyone would think of buying a PDA and not putting it in a case. Once you get one, you won't know what you did without it. Bellagio Designs or Vaja produce the most beautiful and functional cases. Bellagio Designs has an added convenience, Hotsyncability while in the case.
