Why doesn't AvantGo go High Res (320 x 480)?

I've always wondered (well OK - always since i bought my NR70 last Nov.) why doesn't AvantGo have a full-screen option (320-480) so I can use all of the Clie's screen's real estate?

Really annoys me that I have to scroll when I know I have those potential pixels going to waste.

I believe Handstory has "the Onion", not sure about "the Guardian" though? ....my only problem w/ Handstory is it's PC only... no Mac support!

handstory has tons of channels. It does have onion and others. it might even have more than avantgo. also you can easily make your own channels.

rhart00 is absolutely correct.  www.turcic.com (http://www.turcic.com) has an outstanding list of sites that are easy to set up in any 'web scooping' application, whether it's iSilo, Handstory or the free Plucker (which IS hi-res+ too, now...)  They all work well, although I will say Handstory's probably got the easiest user interface.

Handstory was easy for me to use, where as iSilo totally frustrated me. I never did get it to work and appeared too convoluted to be useful.

I've not tried Handstory, but iSilo is quite easy to use. I still use Avantgo, though, for some things.

ugh.... I spent 4 hours last night trying to get iSilo to work...no luck!! That program is soooo damn confusing! Does anyone know if there is any other program that will work w/ Mac and Palm OS5?

I take that comment as an insult, since I feel I am very computer literate, and I don't think spending 4 hours on trying to get a program to work is "being not satisfied if it doesn't work straight out of the box" as you so rudely suggested.
Maybe I am the only one, but I feel iSilo was not very intuitive to use. I desperately want to use it, as I've heard so many good things about it. Maybe I'll spend another evening with it??

My advice: Use ISilo ( & IsiloX). I used Avatgo and liked it a lot ... until I got my NX70V. After a short time of learning I like Isilo so much, that I don´t miss Avantgo anymore. Isilo updates contents as automated task twice a day. Data is transfered via hotsync. Now customzed Pages on my Clie in HiRes+.

Don´t hesitate, give Isilo a try and stop complaining about Avantgo!

Avantgo did the Custom Channel limit thing a while ago and it got me to look for a better offline browser. Handstory won on HiRes AND VFS storage of clips then a better Memo manager and Doc reader Image viewer. I don't use the image viewer (converting to a huge pdb file) or the Doc reader (no smooth scroll). But for offline web it is one of the best, head and shoulders above Avantgo. Plus you can custom clip nearly any web page!!! I use these sites to help me point to the optimized Palm pages.

I take offense when someone slams someone because of the type of machine they use. (by the way I've used Mac's, PC's and SGI machines...so I am no computer dummy!).

I kept getting error messages using iSiloX... it would begin to convert a document then give an error. I think I am going to uninstall and re-install, and start again, also could be some extension conflicts..etc.. I've heard so many positive things about iSilo, I am determined to get it to work.

Those are typically because it is having trouble downloading the pages. Either your connection is slow or the web server is refusing the connection.

Some web servers can be set to refuse the connection if it recognizes that iSiloX is trying to download the page rather than AvantGo or a browser. I think iSiloX has a setting to allow it to send a signal that tricks the web server.

so I got iSilo to work... what a great program! Sites look much better in hi-res, also iSilo has so many options to allow you to customize sites the way you want.

Yes I loved AvantGo, and used it for well over a year. But It has taken' AvantGo sooooo long to come out with a high res-version... and one that will even run on Palm os 5 that I was forced to look elsewhere. Now that I've been using iSilo for exactly 1 day, I am convinced it is much better than AvantGo. I think i'll be using iSilo for a long time.

Sites in iSilo look good, bloody good in fact.

isilo does lack some of the 'plug & play' form factors that one gets with Avantgo but otherwise it is so much better....

Now if I can just work out why when I convert the bbc news (low graphics) site why I always get the based in UK? screen first I'll be OK...

I'll miss reading The Guardian off-line (only available via avantgo) but not so much that I stick with low res performance.

Just switched laptops and now having a problem making my clie update the sites i selected via isilox...
