I like my OS 4 NR70V, but I ever use the keyboard, I almost always use it in tablet mode now, and the clamshell hinges are creaking/loose after 6 months. But the new OS 5 Clie models still don't seem to have the feature set I want:
1. The NR70's big 320x480 screen with virtual Graffiti.
2. No onboard hardware keyboard.
3. Hard buttoons along the bottom, like the original Palms.
4. Connector that will fit my NR70 folding keyboard without buying a new one.
Is it just me and my old habits from Pilot 5000 days, or do others feel the same way? I must be way out in the minority fringe, I guess.
I think a number of us are waiting for the same thing!!

I said this before - the first company to come out with a non clamshell 320x480 palm I'll buy it. If it is not Sony so be it

I've been waiting so long, I bought the Tungsten T.:D When Sony finally comes out with the "real" T I'll take advantage of my PDA replacement warranty on my T615.
Everyone knows the ideal clie is a Hi-res+ tablet with more ram (ie. 32mb) as well as being able to use keyboards, its pretty obvious, very feasable and in great demand

Well . . . I'm not gonna 'bash' you-know-who, but it seems to me they make EVERYTHING but what people want most . . .
I think a non-clamshell 320x480 with 32 (or more) meg onboard RAM would be their biggest selling PDA EVER! Do they do it? NO. And IMHO, it's because they don't want their other PDAs to *STOP* selling.
GARMIN, anyone?

Unknown to us, there's a huge number of pple out there who dont really know (or care) what they want, unlike us knowledgeable geeks from this thread. :)

I think Sony likes to make incremental changes in their units and not give us everything at once. By doing so, they sell more units. But I'm holding out for a 320x480 unit (clamshell or not) with VG and 32 meg.

Yea, me too! I'll take one with or without the clamshell. But at least give me 32 megs please!

its gonna take some time for a 32mb CLie to be released, in my opinion.
they're not going to release a clie model with more ram than their top of the line NZ for at least another 6 months.
I'm predicting the next NX series will simply be an evolution of the current one, with a few minor enhancements.
Most likely:
1. keypad that lights up with better individual keys (from TG50 and chicklet keys from NZ) - I predict that the keypad will light up either a "white" or "blue" color, to make it look more classy than the TG50's dull yellow keypad light.
2. bluetooth (NZ and TG)
3. slightly higher resolution camera (but nothing that gets close to 2mp... don't want to take away sales from the NZ) Video recording will be improved to take advantage of the entire resolution of camera
4. 16mb (yes sadly I know but I'm pretty certain they are not gonna make a model that outshines the NZ anytime soon)
5. Better speaker capable of mp3 and video playback without headphones (from TG50 - similar to the one on the TT)
6. Power switch integrated with the hold button (following trend of SJ, TG, and NZ)
7. User replaceable battery (not too sure on this one, but why not? it be an extra thing for sony to be able to market and sell
8. Revamped CF slot (seeing as how a certain software company is going to be coming out with CF drivers for the NX and NZ line, sony will go ahead and re-vamp the CF slot and cripple it once more, causing users to wait for another 8 months until a new CF driver comes out.
9. KB-11 support, something that should have been built into the current NX series.
10. Upgraded Clie Viewer software, PIscel viewer, and Netfront built in, so they don't take up extra memory.
11. BUilt in support for landscape mode (there will be an arrow rotating landscape (widescreen) to standard view on the status bar) This will be done with sony's version of Palm OS 5.2.2
And thats all I expect. Nothing revolutionary, but still a nice step up from the current NX series. Its gonna still use the same stylus and connector. I'm probably gonna skip the TG50 and hold out for it when it comes out. The lack of a quality speaker on the current NX is holding me back...

Here you go, buy this one and tell us if the virtual graffiti can be skined. The screen is 320x480 and is has 32 megs of ram.

So I'm wondering about a tablet style pda with the 320X480 screen...
The screen is the biggest power draw, and the larger screen obviously hurts the battery.
The clamshell design gives plenty of room for a decent battery. A T-series thickness unit with a high-res plus screen would be difficult to fit enough battery in. You'd end up with a device just as big as the NR series, minus a quarter inch or so of height and a millimeter of depth.
Garmin's, with the GPS, is bigger than an NX. Tablet or not, that's not worth it unless you intead to use the GPS heavily.

Well if they can make a unit with 320 x 480 resolution with the thickness of an NR70, I would be ALL over it. Do you realize the NR70 is thinner than the Tungsten T?
Shave off 2cm off the top and we got ourselves a pretty sweet pda with decent battery life to bat!
