No, unless your Clie has a recognized telephone device, otherwise the feature is hidden and unavailable.
Well, I have installed the phone drivers and applications that one installs for Palm Inc PDAs (download from NXT Clie Club), and this now enables me to successfully see and use the tap dial feature within Iambic Mail - via Bluetooth with my T68i. The SMS option within Iambic Mail also appears, but it never actually sends or downloads SMS.
I heard Iambic claim that this is because Clie's don't have phone support. However, after you've added all the 'phone' drivers to a Clie, Iambic's claim doesn't really hold true.
(On a separate note, FunSMS works perfectly over Bluetooth on my device).
So I guess I'm wondering if my experience has been that of everyone else: that SMS within Iambic Mail simply doesn't work, even after you've installed the phone apps and drivers that Iambic claim would enable the feature?

It works on the Handspring Treo, but that has a built-in phone. Try sending a query to Iambic and see it they can tell you what it needs or the capabilites it has.

Download and install all the files in Phone.zip. It's great in one sense, in that it allows one tap dialling via Agendus ... but the SMS feature of Iambic Mail still won't work.
I guess I'll have to stick to using FunSMS which works without the need to install the above.

Iambic cover the issue already in their knowledge base. Hence my point about their claim that it doesn't work on CLIEs because they dont' have phone support; though once you do install phone support drivers, Iambic Mail SMS still doesn't work.
I guess I'm annoyed that FunSMS manages to do SMS on Clies just fine, but that in over a year Iambic haven't been bothered to update their software for CLIE users to enable the SMS feature (the lack of phone support on CLIE excuse isn't good enough when you consider that FunSMS works flawlessly without the need to install the Palm Phone drivers).

Will FunSMS or one touch dialing work with a clie attached via cable to a mobile phone or does it have to be a bluetooth connection?

k, i got these files installed, but had to add my gsm drivers
you can find all available drivers on this page :
http://www.palm.com/support/accessories/sms.html
HAving a t68i i took the t68 driver
The phone.zip files added the phone menu in prefs where u can choose you gsm connection mode and also new entries in connections
It also installed a full working sms software from palm, and now nin agendus i can dial from book and also send sms !!
i haven't succeeded in getting them from the phone to the clie even if regarding at the send and retrives log everything went well...it's a bug on iambic's side as the palm sms software works very well
-> obrmb : get the phone.zip file from the Y! group then get your gsm driver from the link above, put this into the palm, in pref menu choose a serial connection to your phone, and than it should work with the included sms soft

FunSMS, as far as I remember, works over Infared and Bluetooth.
And, I still wish Iambic would sort out the CLIE SMS bug :(

well, the files in phone.zip just crashed my nr70. thank god i got backup. anyhow: which are the files to install?
the zip unpacks lots of files and two subfolders (gsm and sms). also each file is there 2 times where one always has the extension "_enUS". now - as i have a german language version - which is the proper one to choose? tried just the files without extension in sms and gsm folder and - well i mentioned above.

i've posted a topic for request on iambic forums explaining where we stand, many ppl are waiting for full dial and sms support, should be solved soon i hope
-> cliemarty : i'm using a french version of palm os 4.1 ; i'veinstalled ALL the files from the phone.zip but the std gsm drivers then reinitialized :)
try it after a hard reboot

Iambic have said that SMS support only happens in devices with the Palm SMS libraries installed - ie Treo and newer Palms.
Personally I think it's not good to leave it at that... they should do a deal with Palm to include the bare minimum libraries needed to let Imabic Mail (and Agendus) make use of an IrDA and/or Bluetooth connection to a cellphone.
The PocketPC suppliers seem to have device integration much better sorted....

Good news... I guess
Have grabbed the phone.zip file from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nXtClieClub/files/-Miscellaneous%20Programs/ and the Nokia8210 driver from http://www.palm.com/support/accessories/sms.html installed everything, re-started my NR70V, in Prefs set the Phone for the Nokia and now the Iambic Mail and Agendus software functions.
Now just got to work out what I can remove and still have it work <g>

Can you please be more specific? You are saying that you can *send* AND *receive* SMS on your NR70V??
Once installing phone.zip, tap dialling works within Agendus, but you cannot send SMS using Iambic Mail ... or have you got it to work?!

I have been able to send SMS from Iambic mail
To do so I installed *everything* in the phone.zip and then the relevant Nokia8210 driver
After a reset on the Clie and making sure I tested the Nokia8210 settings in "Phone" under Prefs I was able to send an SMS from both the SMS apps and IambicMail
I did however get some spurious characters, so need to do some more playing.
Have not yet tested getting SMSs from the phone with ImabicMail, although PhoneSMS which I've been using for a while (helps having a Palm m100 lying around as well) goes both ways with no problems
Thanks for the info, I guess I'll give it another shot. I've tried FunSMS but it crashes my NR70V on sending SMS via Bluetooth 1 out of 3 times I used it :(
I've been thinking about giving Master SMS a try ... I'll check out PhoneSMS as well.

One thing i noticed is that some software as matser sms need the sms lib to work properly..also, also i add many problems when io changed my phone standard bluetooth name, i advice to let it as default "T68i'
Common, so you can send/receive via Master SMS? Is it good software? Better/worse than Fun SMS?

i'm happy with funsms..actually i mostly use the palm to send sms, so iambic mail works for that
mastre sms hasn't let me such an impression, otherwise i would be using it :p
Another thing i just discovered today ; my mobile phone provider in france offers a free service to sens you a copy of sms to any email u'd like, that would enable me to only use iambic mail for sms which would be great, even if i don't like to use these kind of features from phone providers - real stealers in my country -
