All:
I had an unexpected hard reset and had to reload everything at the next possible sync. But that means the T3 fix software issued by PalmOne has to be reloaded, right? Or would the required changes caused by the code be embedded in the configuration that downloads at that first restore sync I just performed?
I can't find that file on the T3 site. What is its name? Where can I get it?
Jonathan
I have had to hard reset my T3 a few tiumes and the T3 Rom update seems to be re-installed the first time you sync after. The first few times, i did infact install the T3 ROM update.. burt just found that it was deposited in the RAM as a 15MB file.... so figured that it must be re-installed during the first sync.
Anyway, the location of the file for future reference is at:
http://www-5.palmone.com/uk/en/support/tungstent3.html
Under 'software' its the one called 'Palm Tungsten T3 Update'

If this is a FlashROM update, not you won't need to re-install it after a hard reset.
I WISH Sony would make FlashROM updates for their PDAs!!!

I just got a T3. Do I need this update? I have an SD card installed and so far no issues.

Alan,
In Notepad, doing a "shortcut symbol period nine" without the quotation marks should display your ROM date. If it's on or after Oct. 31st, 2003, you're okay.

It says EXACTLY 10/31/03What do you think?

Well, I downloaded it and it said it's already updated.
Thanks(again) Mike for your help.

I just got a replacement from PalmOne yesterday. I was quite surprised to see that the ROM had NOT been updated. I can't believe they send out units without the update. (And it has the Sharp screen, not the Sony one  )

So it turns out this is more confusing than it would seem. I appreciate the contribution of the ROM date check. But...
In NotePad all I get is a graphic of the three figures mentioned above, and no response is triggered. I cxhecked the T3 manual and there is no reference to interpretation of screen gestures. What am I missing? I tried stroking the same three items in Memo, but no response.

I did some checking and it turns out that it doesn't work with the wide / extended DIA area (at least on the skin I'm using). Try it with the standard DIA area (with the four silkscreen buttons) or try using the "write on screen" feature of the T3.
And not everything is in the manual. ;)

I modified my above post to answer Alan's second-to-last question.
The T3 Update ROM date should be on or after 10/31/03.

Don't use Notepad - use memo. Make sure you do the strokes quickly. Shortcut symbol (looks like lowercase cursive L) quickly followed by a period and the number 9.

Thanks, all. I get "10/31/03 12:25:44" So I say that means the ROM update was reloaded...
And boy are you right: it's not all in the manual.

It's not really that the ROM update is reloaded at the first hotsync after a hard reset. ROM data is unaffected by hard resets. So it doesn't have to be reloaded. Once the T3 Update is installed, it's there for good.
