View Full Version : Multiuser User Questions in Win XP
I have admin rights on my computer running Win XP Home version and have my UX-50 running very well with wireless hotsync, etc. My former PDA is a Handspring Visor which my son wants to use for school. I thought by simply adding another user to the Sony Palm software supplied with the UX-50 that my son would be able to hotsync his Visor properly but unfortunately this does not work. Is there a way around this or do I have to also install the Handspring software separately. I have multiple users set up on my computer. The Hotsync tray icon only appears for my profile, not in any others
What I am trying to do is have it so he can hotsync his Visor when logged on in his profile while still allowing me to continue hotsyncing my UX-50 when I am logged on in my profile.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

i haven't used winxp home edition yet nor do i know how different it is from winxp pro which is what i have at home. i have a m515 and a ux50, my younger sister uses a zodiac and we're both able to hotsync all three devices in one pc under three different users (i have 2 user accounts for myself, 1 admin and the other one just for the purpose of syncing my m505) so i guess it should work just as well with a home edition.
Did you have to install the UX-50 software twice, once in each profile? Or are you using the software supplied with each PDA? I ask because I only installed the UX-50 Palm software once like any other software and the program and hotsync tray icon are only visible in my profile. My son can't see any of them. I suppose I could search through my hard drive while in my son's profile and put both program in the Startup directory too.

just install the desktop software came with visor when login into your son's xp account and it should work. If his account is a limited user, you can change that and install the desktop software and then change back.

So in other words, install the desktop software under each windows profile. That's what your saying, isn't it?
JSYK, I had problems double installing Palm Desktop under two windows profiles a while back (and understandably so). To solve it, I had to disable fast-switching in windows. We can no longer switch users on the fly. We have to log out and back in. I wish PalmOne would give you the option to run it under multiple profiles from a single install.
If you install as administrator in XP - that installs for all users. Installing from a user profile - with enough rights - will only install for that user.

Hi,
I have Windows XP Home edition and created two login accounts, one for my wife and one for me.
I use Tungsten E and she has a Samsung SPH-i500. I have installed Palm Desktop on my account and the Outlook Conduits for the Tungsten E. On her account I have installed Chapura Standard 3.1.3 along with Palm Desktop.
When only one of the User is Logged In(with other logged out), we can HotSync our respective palm devices. However, if both of us are logged in and I attempt to HotSync on either device, the System Restarts.
If you any of you have come across this scenario and know of the solution please let me know.
Thx,
Chandra
