I can't turn on my clie. I tried doing a couple hard resets, it worked for a couple seconds, I turned it off and tried turning it back on and nothing.
Did another hard reset had to erase the everything I put it on the charger and got that orange charging light. Took it off the charger, the light did not go off, and again can't turn it on. Did a soft reset and got the green on light but a black screen. Now I'm hitting the power button and it's doing nothing but the green light is still on.
I bought this thing refurbished about a month ago. I'm thinking I got ripped off. It just sucks to spend this much money on something and to constantly have problems with it.
OK, did another hard reset, it's on again, im going to leave it off for a while.
Should I throw this out, or can it be fixed?
UPDATE
Now the clie screen is clicking on and off.

I've had some strange issues once in awhile as well. I have read where disconnecting the battery fixes some issues. Is it still under warranty? Most Refurbs offer between 30 and 90 days. You can always send it back to Sony for a flat service fee.

maybe its wet...DONT THROW it out, you crazy? you just said you spent a fortune on it. try opening it up and leaving it to dry..it might help..leaving under a lamp at intervals may help. do you subject your UX to moist climate?
ps sorry if i sound rude ok :D
cheers

i've had a couple of this problems once in awhile as well but nothing like your case Daywalker...so i suspected either it got wet (i leave my room airconditioned when i sleep, so the UX do tend to cool as well), or there may be a software conflict. i've only just removed poweRun from my UX (created so many problems eversince using it)..have to go through the process of reinstalling everybit of SW that i have...

I don't think it got wet, I'm always very careful with it. I even bought 1 of those hard aluminum cases to protect it.
When I did the hard reset I deleted everything, so there should be no software conflict issues. How do I go about dissconecting the battery?

wow..thats nice:) wish i had one of those. where did buy it from? online?
anyways back to the matter at hand. emm well when did it start having these problems? you think there may be a software conflict somewhere? i read a thread somewhere on this, just dont exactly remember where. do you have Bt toggle or verichat 2.19? i read somewhere (if i recall corectly) that these apps have a few problems. you might want to check that out..

It started today, this morning actually. I woke up turned it on and hotsynced it, turned it off and went to work. 2 hours later I tried to turn it on and nothing.
Now it's sitting in the charging cradle with the orange light on. I take it out of the cradle and the light stays on.
How do I disconnect the battery?

Do you have a memory stick inserted? If so, remove it and try another hard reset.
Are you erasing all information?
Are you restoring to a "power-savings" backup?

When it asks if I want to delete all data I hit yes,or the up button. It wont even let me do it any other way.
How do I restore to a power savings backup?
I just reset it and its working. I went into prefs and chose power saving.
It says Last Operation No backup data
Turn Off
(Power Saving Mode)
Should I erase backup?

How do I restore to a power savings backup?
If you show a backup available, it should ask you during your hard reset if you would like to restore backup performed on so and so date. It sounds like software corruption, so I would start fresh, unless that is not possible.
To answer your other question...I think there was a thread discussing battery removal. Do a search. I have never actually removed mine.

OK, heres what I did. I did a power save, went to prefs chose power save/turn off, then turned it back on, all while still in the cradle.
This seems to have reset it. So far it's working perfectly, fingers crossed.
I did a quick hotsync putting AppShelf back on and it's working pretty good so far.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Khad-o, I will send you a link to where you can get that aluminum case.
I paid $11.00 for mine. A little expensive but it's worth it to protect a $500.00 investment.

I had a similar problem, but I got nothing. If nothing else works, let it discharge then recharge it. You'll have to hard reset after it comes back on, but it's working again.

make sure the power connector to the cradle is secure in the back. I find that sometimes it comes a little loose and then the UX50 won't charge properly, resulting in a clie that won't turn on or if it does only briefly.
Second, although a lot of people swear by Appshelf, it caused a lot of instability for me and once I stopped using it, a lot of the problems went away. I went back to using Zlauncher even though it uses more memory, it's much more stable for me.

Really? I just installed a trial version of Appshelf the night before last.
Damn, that could be my problem. I guess I'll move over to Z launcher
